Customers of Ideal (and Carpathia) have by now received notice of the scheduled service interruption which will start later today, resolving by Monday Nov. 25. They are moving to a new core operating software.

One of the things Ideal is telling customers to do is to copy the account transactions for the last year, as after the change over, NO prior transaction history will be available. This strikes me as odd - can they not simply move that data over to any new system? They had better get the account balances correct!!

So far, I have been happy with Ideal, and will continue to hope that competent people are looking our interests.

The reasons for this are likely two-fold:

(1) their amalgamation with North Winnipeg Credit Union left them with separate core banking systems; this allows them to merge their systems into one; and,
(2) forthcoming feature upgrades in terms of all-digital account opening and, possibly, external account linking processes.

This will the same as AcceleRate Financial's recent migration of both their core banking system and online banking platform to, I think, Temenos and MemberDirect. Make sure you download your transaction histories and e-Statements in case they don't transfer over.

Cheers,
Doug

That ship sailed at 4pm Central Time on November 22 when they went offline for the conversion, so if you didn't already do it, you're out of luck (I screencapped everything a week ago)

Now that Ideal is back on track, I note when logging back in that my account number has changed.

So now I have also initiated changes with my external FIs from which I had links to Ideal, to give them the new account number. Others with similar links should also change their info.

Old account number is now your membership number (7 digits).
Old link contains 12 digits (20010 plus 7 digits membership number).

New account number contains 16 digits.
I think all 16 is too many digits for linking.
It probably would be better to use just last 7 digits of new account number and 20010, like it was used before.

rhvic, did you actually used all 16 digits for new links?

It's unlikely your account number changed. Possible, but unlikely. I've never seen a bank account number (excluding transit) longer than 12 digits. I suspect you're now logging in with your debit card number. Alternatively, you may have been given a new membership number, but I would not use any provided "new numbers" for the purposes of EFT bank account links. Wait till your next statement arrives, then use that. 🙂

Cheers,
Doug

Good point -- I have my Ideal savings account linked to Simplii and DUCA -- I guess this means getting new PADs from Ideal to submit to the other FIs since those two don't use the microdeposit verification system.

I bet Simplii gives me a hassle again. They didn't want to take the Ideal PAD in the first place because they said they had to have a void cheque for all external links -- took me a month of callbacks before they finally accepted it

Doug, when I logged in to my Ideal today, I clearly noticed, that membership number is the same number, that was used before for links (20010 + 7 digits membership number). I named that 7 digits "old account number" because it was used for linking.
Maybe it was always membership number, I don't remember.

New account number (16 digits) also stated there clearly.
That new account number also was used to log in.

I found the process for transitioning to a new system was very well communicated in advance, via multiple letters and the web site. And using the new login ID number(s), noting that for joint accounts each person has a different sign in number now, the process went well including setting up more secure passwords and security questions.

Before it was necessary to e-mail or phone for transfers to and from the primary external chequing account. Now the system looks like others (Alterna comes to mind) with supposedly the ability to set up a transfer online. However, that primary external account they have from before is not yet showing up as an available link. And its not clear if the method of transferring has changed yet.

I do note also that my member number is still the same. However, whereas I earlier used that member number to log in, I am now using a new 16 digit account number, sent to me in the mail, which I did not see previously. (to me it is not a debit card number, since I do not have a debit card for Ideal)

I have changed my transfer account info for Ideal at Hubert and Tangerine, and will see in a few days if the test deposits arrive at Ideal.

Further clarification, I see there is the new option to mail or e-mail a form to set up the ability to initiate online transfers. Without doing that, the old system of e-mailing or phoning the information still will work, I believe.

Previously I was not using Ideal to initiate the push or pull of funds; I did that from the external FIs to which Ideal was linked. I'll look into the 'email/mail of a form' system you mention.

I have now changed the transfer link at Hubert (to Ideal), using Ideal's new 16 digit account number. The small deposit from Hubert arrived today and I confirmed the link.

Still awaiting similar for links from Tangerine and EQ.

To clarify, the push/pull links are set up at the external FIs, not at Ideal.

rhvic, there is no need to change the transfer links to new 16 digits account number.

Old links and new links are perfectly fine, you can use old and/or new, whatever you like more.
