I have been trying to open an account with ICICI since Oct 25th. It is now Nov 18th and my account is still not open - they keep asking me for more personal information ie drivers license etc that has to be photocopied, signed and mailed to them.(have now sent this twice) Has anyone else had this much difficulty with these people? All this because I wanted a high rate of interest on a 5 year GIC.
Sounds a bit like Craig's experience from 5 years ago, although the troubles he had were via fax:

I finally gave up with ICICI - they once again contacted me wanting me to send photocopies of identification. I called them and asked to have my application destroyed and then put a stop payment on my cheque. It had been a month since I tried to open an account for a five year GIC. I might try a credit union if I can find one that's easy to deal with.

Good luck
I had a a couple of 5 year gic’s with them that came due about a year ago. I did a walk in set up at a branch office. Nothing was smooth and the online access once set up had to be accessed approximately every 3 months or would expire and was a pain to regain. When they came due it took several phone calls to the advisor that I originally set them up with (luckily I saved his card and luckily he still worked there, the number went to his cell phone). I have monies to reinvest this week and decided to go with Oaken rather than ICICI. I do not want to repeat the hassle of dealing with ICICI even if their rate is .15 higher for 5 year at the moment. Never had a warm fuzzy feeling with ICICI.
