I recently began looking at other banks to see what their rates were, and noticed that ICICI is quite high at 4.1%. It's a bit of a co-incidence that I started receiving emails from ICICI that ended up in my SPAM bin. No, I didn't register or sign up for anything from them. So far, I've received 4 emails from them, with the following email addresses in the "From:" line:
specialist@intendground.com
specialist@soxbased.com
specialist@revoltproposal.com
specialist@hourfrog.com
They were all identical, with the subject of "Save today for a better tomorrow. Earn 4.10% p.a now", and a graphic touting the virtues of their savings account. It also claimed that "You have been sent this advertisment [sic] through opting in to one of our offers or by becoming one of our customers". As I said, I've done no such thing.
I've since read up about ICICI, and their dirty practices in India, such as hiring goons to beat up those who can't pay their loans. Even though this is an Indian bank you'd hope that ICICI Canada would have higher standards... but apparently hiring spammers to do their advertising is not beneath them. And yes, these spams are for ICICI Canada, not India. I wouldn't bring my money anywhere near them.

I've had a couple of accounts with ICICI for about 6 months now and I haven't seen any spam from them. Looks like ICICI might have bought a database of email addresses from some website that you previously visited. Gotta love spammers.
I definitely hear your concerns about ICICI. I only have two accounts with them, and the combined value of both is well-below the $100,000 CIDC insurance ceiling. I would never trust those guys with uninsured cash and/or investments. I think the odds are at least even that in the next 10 years their Canadian arm will go belly-up or they will take their Canadian assets and run back to India.
