It shows on my e-statement for all four of the RRSP Spousal GICs

Spousal Indicator: Y Spousal Contributor: *my name*

Just looked at my RRIFs. We don't have spousal there.
Just online it shows an account number.
On the statement it shows the account number and contract number.
BUT no name of successor.

I've never seen or at least noticed name of sucessor. I've seen some institutions will note there is a one, but even with Hubert before they didn't say on my statements or online, but they would email me confirmation that they received the paperwork and they would confirm over the phone if there is one on the account.

A quick look at all my accounts (TDDI, Hubert, Questrade), not one of them show a successor on the statements. However I know the process was done (have copies of the paperwork) and I'll leave it up to the lawyer settling the estate to hash it out. sf-cool

I am quite sure it shows in the Oaken site.

I still need to look at my paper copies of setting up my RRSP or RRIF at Hubert to see what it says. If I started with RRSP I would assume in the change over that the successor would move as well.

Because your RRIF will have a different contract number than your RRSP, you would have to fill out a new successor holder/beneficiary form specific to it.

One better sign a new beneficiary form that refers to the RRIF. The old form, referring to the former RRSP, could be invalid.

That was almost what happened in one case (Ashton Estate v South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation) where the beneficiary form found was for an RRSP and not for the RRIF holding $370,000.

Thanks. I’ll check my records first. I don’t believe I did a new successor form at Oaken. I will phone both on Monday. I usually am on top of this type of thing and then forget about it. And lol, what ever I did, I have forgotten. I have a bunch of checks to do for successors, alerts and make sure mobile number is on our accounts as well. Time to get it completed.
