Buy a motorcycle and a driving course. In fact, buy a driving school course even if you never ride a motorcycle.

Motorcycles keep us young and happy!

Good driving habits keep us all alive and healthy!

I used to ride... But the way drivers treat you on the road, I find WAY too dangerous to ride even on a local streets...

I came very close to depositing at Hubert with a little less interest on their quarterly but went with Saven at 5% for 6 months.

Hubert would die a slow death without the unique quarterly GIC.

All that said, having no web interface to do anything has turned me off quite substantially. The Hubert Interface was so good, some other entity should think about buying it out.

Hubert's GIC rates went Down again today ... and Hubert fell further Down
the GIC Chart.

But as we all know, Hubert isn't alone ... the same trend is happening elsewhere, as well.

The 'GIC Party' is ending. sf-confused

@Dean

WHEN you find one, just one FI having quarterly GIC, let me know. Until then, Hubert is still strong, with unlimited insurance on ALL your funds.

Lower rates means lover taxes paid while money stay secured instead of under the bed in a shoe-box.

I agree Hubert still has some positives, but their process is still broken this long after the change so to create a gic you have to:

1) transfer the money to hubert
2) wait for the funds to arrive
3) call to have them put the funds in a gic
4) wait a week to make sure they gave me the correct rate and input the parameters, because they have decided to no longer do this while you are on the phone with them
5) call again to have them fix any errors they made
6) wait a week again to see if things get fixed

It's too much hassle and very easy to find competitive institutions which allow you to do everything online and who will fix problems in real time while you talk with them.

No ability to perform these basic functions online suggests to me the CEO purposely purchased a cheaper license for their software package, but then tells customers they're working on fixing a problem...

Changing the process of serving the customer while you are on the phone with them... well that's something else that makes me feel the decision makers do not care about hubert customers.

1)

Call Hubert and ask them to open a quarterly GIC for $x and fund it from external link #y.

Perhaps you have been unlucky, perhaps I have been lucky. I have done this several times since the merger with one call, quick and efficient with no delays or mistakes.

Their Manitoba, Connected site says Access CU has been busy merging the systems of another two credit unions, Casera and Carpathia, until this June. They likely have not been spending much effort in the Hubert area:

Here’s what you should know

Casera and Carpathia Credit Unions successfully integrated their databases as of June 10, 2024. Sunova Credit Union is fully integrated into Access Credit Union effective September 25, 2023. Noventis Credit Union is fully integrated into Access Credit Union effective November 2022. Amaranth Credit Union is fully integrated effective June 2023.

It's also very doubtful that the fromer Hubert features were just off-the-shelf options. Lots of these banking systems have been customized. It is more likely that Sunova CU made significant in-house changes to their banking system to provide the Hubert features.

I have a feeling Hubert had created their on-line banking system in house. But I might be wrong...
Yes, before it was very easy to do a lot of things on-line: move money back and forth, open GIC, etc.
Now we have to call for almost every money interaction. A little bit of pain but still very friendly, courteous and helpful staff on the other line of phone or chat.

And you know how it goes when bully takes over: "I am the smartest and strongest so it will be MY way or highway'.

That was exactly my experience a few times too.

After that I simply decided not to deal with Hubert anymore, because that was degrading and disappointing treatment.
Error after error and often my instructions were completely disregarded.

I have CIBC as linked account with Hubert. To purchase a GIC I call them and they take the funds out of the CIBC account and purchase the GIC at the same time. I purchased two GIC's in September funded directly from CIBC. So this way no need to transfer funds and wait.

I have Access as a linked account with Tangerine and this is usually how I transfer funds out of my savings account with Hubert/Access.

I'm probably very very unlucky.

Every time, when I requested to transfer money or to purchase the GIC, I was told that Hubert's processing center will do that, when they will have time.
GIC creation will be backdated, they also told me that.
