So what is the point of a mobile app? Hubert does not have cheques, allow bill payment or have ATM cards. So there is no need to advise me of purchases or account activity. Hubert is really investment based for GICs, isn't it? I have accounts there for % only.
Would be more of a benefit to have push/pull set up for US dollar accounts or a receipt (certificate) summary of GIC entry.
They should "perfect" on what they have before a new advent.

I hadn't ever tried their mobile web access until now. It's quite usable on my large-screen phone (Galaxy Note II). The only benefit of a full-blown app that I can think of is photo check deposit, and maybe the balance quick view that some apps have (like Tangerine). Certainly not huge items.
They also said that account nicknames will come, including for the website view and hopefully for account statements.

I use photo deposit at a bank that has it (TD, Tangerine, etc), wait a few days, then transfer it to Hubert or wherever I'm getting the best rate, sometimes using Hubert as the hub in a 2-step transfer. Photo deposit at Hubert would save those steps. The more CUs that have it the better, I figure. I don't receive many cheques though, just a few per year.

In hind sight Hubert already has push pull. So the only need to take a pic of a cheque for deposit is rare for my wife and I. Nice but in thinking about it, I would rarely use. And no doubt cheques will be a thing of the past. While I don't know how to do it.....can you not send money from your bank account by email using interac? Perhaps not every bank or CU offers?

I hope these updates aren't the reason they just dropped their rate 5 basis points.
I'd rather have the better rate, and this is a niche they no longer occupy. The Bank of Canada may have have huffed and puffed but they haven't blown down interest rates since last Spring, so what's the problem?
As RicksBank suggests, you only need one account where you can deposit cheques through an app. I mean, how many cheques do people get these days? I only get a small handful per year.
I would be quite content if there was one bank/CU whose niche was to always have the best rates, by at least 25 basis points. Tang is actually doing better at that at the moment, and still offering the frills and spending a ton on advertising. Hubert does neither of the latter, so why can't they offer a better rate?

Good point. It appears to me that Hubert has developed a decent product that is most cost effective to run and manage. So why the rate decrease? Will others follow next week? It would now, be interesting to see who runs the most cost effecient operation.....Hubert, Accelerate, Oaken, Outlook, Tang...etc.

Accelerate still holding at 1.8%
I notice, however, that various FIs are starting to promote their 5yr rates.
This is not to say that those rates are exemplary - they're not.
However, it may be a sign that they think rates will rise sometime over the next few years. They want to lock in our money at a good price - for them.
