They're going to have their hands full, bringing Hubert back up to speed to where it was. I'm guessing it could take them half a year, or more.

Time will tell ... And fingers crossed,

I predict that they won't bring Hubert back to its former glory. I would bet that within 2 years the quarterly redeemable GIC will be gone, replaced with standard GIC's with competitive rates. The savings account will disappear, and will be converted to Access' savings account, maybe with a slight rate bump, but not competitive.
I hope I am wrong, but the days of online self-service for external transfers and opening/closing GIC's are over. The quarterly GIC is the only thing keeping some of my funds with them. If that goes, so do I.

I have three GIC's with them, first one maturing in 2027. They pay interest out annually so hoping that in January 2024 the earned interest will be put into my savings account with them. I take it that I will then be required to phone Hubert's number and ask for the funds to be transferred into my "used to be linked" CIBC account? Anybody? sf-embarassed

I feel similar. But hopefully not real bad. Reducing competition may mean less attractive rates.
I don’t believe that Hubert and Accelerate were always the same rates. But do believe that Accelerate and Crosstown were the same.

Here are Access current rates.

For now.....all *cash is gone. All cash TFSAs are in process of being transferred out (was the plan before the merger was announced), **all non registered GICs will be moved out (was the plan before the merger was announced), all TFSA GICs will be transferred out (was the plan before the merger was announced) and a chunk of RRIF GICs will be transferred out (was the plan before the merger was announced).

*Some might return based on the return of push pull.
**Will continue to take advantage of quarterly GICs.

My end all decision will be based on my furthest out GIC maturity date, competitive rates, the ability to update a GIC online to be joint, pay interest annually and pay out at maturity to savings account, quarterly GICs, return of push pull, GICs to be identified, online showing joint names and names of successors. I want to see the latter in black and white....not a “say so” on the phone that can later be denied.

If the interest accrued is just a small balance, doing an e-transfer to yourself can be entirely done though the Access banking, and would be much more convenient and faster than calling in.

Do you have any other accounts that have both push and pull to use as a HUB? That way you can avoid calling them.
Ie. People’s Trust or Oaken. <= Set up your accounts.
Log onto either, pull funds from Hubert. Wait till you see at Oaken or PT. Often overnight. Then push to your CIBC account. <= make sure there are no holds on the funds before you push.

Or you can use the free interac eTransfer that Hubert offered. I dislike eTransfer, especially if you err in the send to email address or mobile number. And I have erred twice....but avoided the loss. Hubert sets up a “contacts list like” option for your “sends”.

I used the e-transfer to sweep out the interest deposited in my savings account at the end of September, from a balance that I moved out prior to the transfer weekend. The interface for it seemed really good. It first made me set up a contact, and when I put in my own email, it showed my name and warned that I had auto-deposit set up for e-transfers at my other bank, cautioning that the transfer would not be reversible. I also had to do 2FA authentication by text message. I would say that they have taken quite prudent steps to eliminate mistakes or fraud with e-transfers.

Okay, so I'm thinking of setting up Hubert as a linked account with Tangerine as advised here. In order to do that is the Financial Institution Name Hubert Financial or Access Credit Union? Also is the Transit 44857-879 or the old 45967-879?

I only have a HISA with Hubert as well as GIC's. No chequing or accounts previously with Access.

Thanks.

Apparently both work but I would try the old.

The old Hubert site used to give you a printable page that gave your banking transit etc. I would go with the Hubert info and NOT the Accelerate info. They both work, apparently but I was advised that since you have 2 HISA accounts (if you were an Accelerate customer as well) to use the right link if possible. So see if the new Hubert site has it still.

On the new Hubert site you can download a void cheque.

Hmmmm interesting.....city is now Winnipeg and not Selkirk.

On the new site, the Accounts menu has "Download Void Cheque", which will give you an image for a void cheque for an account. It shows the new 44857 transit number on it, but I have a bi-weekly PAD debit that pulls from my Hubert account, set up with the old "45967" transit, and that has worked seamlessly through the changeover as well.

Thanks everyone. I will wait until Monday to link my Hubert (as Hubert with old transit no.), with Tangerine. Then in a couple of days I'll do a transfer to pull $10
out of Hubert into my Tangerine HISA. If that all works then I will be satisfied from then on in to transfer yearly interest from GIC's with Hubert into Tangerine. After everything is matured, I doubt I will be doing any more business with them. But things change.

I would tend to set up new links with the new transit number, as they may phase out the old transit number at some point (hopefully giving us ample notice beforehand).

Not sure what you guys are talking about old and new. The transit numbers will remain the same for Hubert and same ”if” you were with Accelerate. And if you are with Accelerate you will now see two HISA account numbers and may see two more HISA account numbers if you had RRSP, RRIF, or TFSA Accounts. And no change, apparently, to your GIC numbers. I would think it will take 7 years to phase out the the Accelerate transit and GIC numbers. In my case I only had cash in Accelerate HISA so was easy to see what account was for Accelerate and Hubert.

They say both transits will work.....so if you set up one only for pulling out of Hubert, set up the Hubert transit number.

Just downloaded my Sept statement, they have it dated Sept30 statement, it doesnt say it it only goes from Sept. 1 -23. I dont have any interest posted in my RRIF variable accounts , so is it correct that we will be getting another statement that goes from Sept. 23-30? Are any of the bloggers getting month end interest showing in their RRIF variables on the statement?

The online statement dated September 30, 2023 no longer shows the names of the secondary owners on joint GICs and joint savings accounts. Previously, their online statements did show the names of BOTH joint owners. This is a serious omission.

I agree. And nothing is better. Including no show of successor.

You have to match GIC numbers on both statements for proof of joint.

I do have all my paper copies of original input that show, though.

Pathetic, I know.

I just looked at the Hubert Statements again. We (Spouse and I) each have 2 Sep 30 Statements.

The first Sep 30 on the list is a 16 page black & white one account per page summary stating coverage for Sep 01-22. This is statement we all reacted to earlier this month. There are statements for prior months in the same format.

The second Sep 30 on the list is a 6 page colour version beginning with ...

Pages 1-2 - top level one line per account month-end view of all accounts in 3 sections:

Daily Banking: non-Reg HISA's and perhaps Checking.
Investments: TFSA HISA's, TFSA GIC's and non-Reg GIC's.
Shares: Common & Surplus.

Pages 3-6: transaction level summary by account but not one account per page so, a much better condensed summary.

Yours may differ depending on the number of accounts and the number of transactions.

Not a bad looking statement at all. Our accounts are all nicknamed in a way that shows ownership and each account reference is headed with a combined Nickname and account number. A different look vs all other prior statements so I assume this to be the new look.

The interest corrections for Sep 22-30 that were made after Sep 30 are not reflected in these statements. I assume they'll be part of the Oct statements.
