Ditto. I wouldn’t buy tires or let my car near a CT service bay.

So True

Even simple/basic maintenance jobs like oil changes, can go wrong. When I was young (and not so afluent sf-smile) I got in the habit of doing my own oil changes, and other basic auto maintenance ... and I still do, to this day.

And as for CT, they 'Never' get to work on my vehicles either ... there's Way too many CT auto repairshop Horror Stories out there ❗ sf-confused

And I forgot to mention it was quite expensive fixing the stripped thread on the oil pan- they had to move the transmission to put a new oil pan on.

In the old days a self tapping oil pan plug replacement would do the trick. Then do an oil change again a few weeks later.

I wouldn't get an oil change at CT if they paid me. Oil change is not as simple as it looks- the thread on the oil pan is easily stripped, oil filter overtightened, oil overfilled etc.

It can even go wrong at a regular mechanic. I had an oil leak after an oil change twice, once because of oil pan thread being stripped and oil pan drain plug not tightening properly, and second time because non OEM oil filter was defective and leaking. Both times my driveway asphalt got quite eaten away, and I had to pay dealer for a new oil change, because I didn't want to go back to original place.

I agree...I have had my fair share of bad experiences at CDN Tire and stopped going there a LONG TIME ago for everything. I would not even get oil changes at the regular repair bays either. BUT I DO get oil changes at a CDN PIT Stop...there very few left around but thankfully there is one close to my place. And for that and tires I have no trouble with and would get that done but nothing more, ever.

BUT as pointed out, problems with oil pans can happen with ANY mechanic...I have been to other chains and ran into leak problems too. I believe it has far more to do with the individual mechanic than it has to do with the chain.

So far, oil changes have worked out for me for several years on 2 vehicles without any problems.
