Just received an email survey from Hubert, and there will be two mastercards in June, 2017.

It's a very crowded market. They will have to come up with something spectacular to make me want one.

I like Hubert, but my patience is running thin with their ever decreasing rates. I don't really need a new credit card, and don't really think there is a better deal to be gotten on that score.

What I do want is better interest rates. And that's what I told them on the survey this time.

Since their parent company Sunova, piggybacks Desjardins Visa CCs, it's probably not much of a stretch to believe Hubert will piggyback Desjardins, as well. Check the link to see if the potential Hubert/Desjardins MasterCard CCs distinguish themselves from the field -

I do not see anything outstanding or exciting offered by Desjardins. It cannot match no fee, 4% cash back for groceries/gas offered by CIBC Petro replacement.

That 4% cash back no fee CIBC card is only for the 1st year, isn't it ... $99/year after that.

The only card that might interest me would have to give at least 2% on everything, and Free, with good primary insurance policies. Not very likely. I just couldn't be bothered changing for anything less than that as I've had no issues with my current MC issuer.
If it's another one of the "category" deals, there are already enough of them out there and they're not that valuable to me. Most of my CC spending is "Other".

As per letter received, since this card replaces cibc petro card, it will be no fee forever. And I confirmed with petro guys...

Curious . from CIBC website

Starting May 1, 2017, we’ll no longer offer the CIBC Petro-Points MasterCard. As described in the letter we sent you, we’re replacing the CIBC Petro-Points MasterCard with a simple cash back rewards program. With this replacement card, you’ll be able to easily earn cash back on all of your purchases.

You’ll continue to earn Petro-Points on your purchases until the date mentioned in your letter. After that, you’ll start earning cash back on all of your purchases.

Is the replacement card a VISA or a MC? "a simple cash back rewards program" doesn't sound like the up to 4% back VISA Infinite rewards card.

-----------------

But, if you're being "grandfathered" into the new high-reward card with no annual fee - that is sweet.

Yes, they should be the leader in rates. I imagine the Mastercard will give them more profit and along with lower interest rates will add on to profit.

Usually surveys are developed in a way to make us think we have input for what we would like to see improved and they have slipped in Mastercard a few times and there is no doubt in my mind they have had Mastercard on the planning table for years. So here we are with 2 new Mastercard offers that we think we wanted only for Hubert to toot their horn and blow there whistles....you asked for it and here it is!!! Boulder dash!!! Surveys usually always benefits the surveyor.

After the recent Costco change I am now able to use my preferred Mastercard (the one I have had since day one) and cancelled 3 other Amex cards. Life has gone just fine without Amex.

I think it was Jane Jacobs, the famous urban planning critic and environmentalist, who said that you should beware of "community consultations" as the only point of them was to get you to buy in to what had already been decided upon - which has certainly been true in my experience. Surveys may be similar.

I hope they get it right and don't offer yet another mediocre cash-back credit card. For me the only incentive to get it would be if it had no FX.

Doubtful. I see them eventually ditching Desjardins' Visa credit cards eventually, which will likely rebranded as Desjardins Visa credit cards as Sunova or Collabria Financial won't likely buy out that credit card portfolio. 🙂

This is what Meridian Credit Union did with their CUETS Financial MasterCard credit cards - those clients that opt not to cancel their cards will receive regard, unbranded "CUETS" credit cards and Meridian and Collabria are starting fresh with co-branded Collabria Visas. 🙂

Cheers,
Doug

WOW ... and who owns Collabria . none other than Desjardins . hmmmm .... how'd that happen?

Look for the upcoming Hubert MC to mirror the current Desjardins offerings.

What about the Presidents Choice World Card. It is free and has good bonuses especially if you buy gas at their gas bars. I'm told that the new owner of the gas bars will be honouring the $.04 per litre in points. All purchases in any of Loblaws stores gives double points. And bonuses for some ten or twelve specials offered to holders per week on grocery and other in-store items. There are also other special offers available from time to time.

Hubert's much anticipated MasterCard offerings are finally here, and they look, well, they look rather run-of-the-mill ...

(The Hubert Mastercard is issued by Collabria Financial Services Inc. in a joint partnership with Sunova Credit Union Limited ...)

This is NOT Cash back card. This is another stupid points card to exchange point for useless things. Yes, even gift card is useless thing for me. Unless I am missing something.
Cash back = hard cash, money I can use they way I want.

Completely agree with you.
What a disappointment from Hubert!

"With our Hubert Cash Back Mastercard you’ll earn cash rewards on all your purchases."
The proper name for it should be - Hubert Rewards Back Mastercard or Hubert Rewards Points Mastercard.

The points can be used for account credits, but I wasn't able to find the specifics of how that is done or the conversion ratio. You might need a login at the rewards site to get that information currently. I asked support and they said account credits are redeemed at 1%, so 100 points gets you $1.

These are not competitive cards. Nothing about them seems to be top of the market. No unique aspects. Not what I'm looking for.
