I received an email yesterday from Hubert offering their members a limited time (~6 hours) special for a 2 year term for 2.65%, which I didn't enrol into, but when I look at their website its still the same rate.

Here's the part I find confusing, I looked into my past Hubert emails and I can see that the last one where the rates were increasing (Feb/2018), it listed the 2 year rate at 2.75%, so did it go down?

This is what I have in my logs:

* June 14: from 2.75% to 3.00% (which they had marked as a promo)
* July 10: from 3.00% to 2.65%

WOW ... that rate bouncing by Hubert looks nastier than what Ideal's rates were purported/reported to be on this same Forum.

They said in the first place (June 14) that it was a limited time promo rate.
Then they gave you a bit of notice when it was about to expire, which they've never done before.
What did you expect??

I am pleased with how Hubert has handled this, although I think the email could have been more clearly written. A bit more notice would be better.- at least 24 hours. Oaken gives a week, but most FIs give none.
You had over 3 weeks to take advantage of it. It was a great deal while it lasted.

I think you misinterpreted the July 9 e-mail.

The July 9 e-mail from Hubert I received said the two-year term special was over and that the two-year term deposit is now 2.65%.

Hubert's former rates on CANNEX (as of July 10, 2018 at 12:30:10 ET) show that the 3% rate for two years was higher than the rate for three years. So, it likely wouldn't last:

Term Deposits/GICs: 1 to 6 years

Hubert Financial no 1,000 2.4500 3.0000 2.7500 3.2500 3.1500 -

I agree. 3% was PROMOTIONAL rate PLUS you got advanced note that rate will go down at certain date. NOBODY is such nice as Hubert.
They have right to set rate as they are pleased. Why are people so 'surprised' when somebody lowers rates? Get life...
