Hi everyone, first time posting, thank you for all the great info. Really beneficial! After seeing Nelson post about Weyburn cu GIC special at 3.35% but needing a local cu to verify identity, I thought I'd look into it more given the excellent rate involved. Darla at Weyburn offered to contact my local cu and set up a meeting which took all of five minutes, paperwork forwarded back to Weyburn for us and all we had to do was forward the cheque to Weyburn ourselves. Did that yesterday, so will wait for confirmation but so far, given the significant bonus in rate offered and the Weyburn cu doing essentially all the legwork, very pleased with outcome. Thanks again for this forum, it's been tremendously helpful!

No, not Sask based. Integris CU assisted. I live in BC. I'm not aware of anyone offering even close to 3.35% for a longer rate so pretty happy

Totally agreed. Things have changed a lot since the beginning of the year. Thanks for digging it out again under the pile.

... here's digging out of the driveway on this stormy day in Ontario sf-smile

I may be wrong, because it was a few years ago, but I think Meridian (in Ontario) did a verification for us. They were very nice about doing it. Nothing really in it for them other than "customer service", which is a nice change in today's world.

Deal closes Tuesday apparently.

Their deposit insurer https://www.cudgc.sk.ca sounds fine but im kinda wonderin the insurance is unlimited its tempting to pile in but prudent i guess to be under dicos limit. Any thoughts?

My thought is to spread it around. Whether you can do that within DICO or CDIC limits depends on how much money you have and how many FIs are worth your while.

Welcome to the forum capnukr, happy to have helped. This special GIC rate looks even better now that the Bank of Canada cut its key interest rate. The LBC Digital and B2B Bank promo savings rates were short-lived and other financial institutions have decreased their rates as well. The BOC may cut its rate further. Unfortunately, I was unable to take advantage of this offer. I was hoping that this rate would have extended into the summer as I have a rather large GIC position maturing in August. The customer service representative I spoke to could not guarantee the rate would still be available. The rate was available since last March, wishful thinking I suppose. Better luck next time. If the stock market slides into bear market territory, I might take a dip. In the meantime, HAPPY GIC HUNTING!
