Limited time special for new money, minimum $1,000, 5.50% p.a. for a 15 month GIC. I believe this applies to non-registered GICs and registered GICs (RRSP, TFSA).
(For existing money, rate is 5.25% p.a. for 15 months.)

Source: Phone call to Tandia. This promo is not shown on their website yet.

They are having problems with their system right now, unable to log in.
Called them and they confirm they have a system issue, but more importantly, the 5.5% promo rate for new money will NOT be published on the web.
If you are interested, you can call in after you have funded ur account, and they will setup the GIC with the 5.5% rate for you.
On top they can release the hold on the funds for GIC purchase.

Thanks, GR.
Does anyone know if this offer has annual compounding?

Given its only 15months, think default is usually pay at maturity so default is indeed annual compounding ?

Annual compounding means that at 12 months they will pay 5.5% interest into the GIC account; and at 15 months they will pay 5.5% per annum on the total reached at 12 months (i.e. principal plus 5.5%)

The other way of doing it, without annual compounding, is that at the end of the term of 15 months, they pay you 5.5% on the principal, and that's all - no compounding of interest.

I don't see that there is any "default".

I have seen both of these models in other situations.

The 5.5% is an annual rate. So No they can’t legally pay u only 5.5% for the 15mths unless they explicitly specify it’s 5.5% for the entire 15mths. Just like 5y rate is 5% and they are not paying u 5% total over 5 years.

Just called in and talked to Tandia rep. She will initiate the transfer in, and tomorrow morning will invest the fund into the 15mth special.
Very efficient, I was on hold for less than a couple of mins !
She was actually the same rep I talked to yesterday and she knows exactly what I need, extremely impressive. I have called in to Tangerine at least a dozen times so far, and every time its some subpar rep that I have to "bear with". If Tangerine can only train their staff like Tandia does.

P/S Fyg, sounds like their Me2Me transfer is limited to $10k a day for transfer IN, which deem it pretty useless. Edeposit will accommodate bigger amounts.

I was told that interest could be paid annually, not compounded, if requested.

I think this deal for 5.50% p.a. is hot.

Yes, I expect you could get annual payout if you wanted. I was just trying to distinguish it from a term rate.

For an extra 3 months, it doesn't make any difference to me when it pays out.

Does anyone transfer RRSP to Tandia for this 5.5% promo?
Will it be 1-2 months interest loss while the fund in transit?

Super impressed with their service (or the rep that took care of me).
She processed this morning before 9am and sent me email to let me know.
Now lets hope BoC keeps rate at same or similar level for at least the next 15mths...

I was told by a CSR that the promo rate of 5.50% ended yesterday. The promo rate of 5.25% p.a. for 15 month GICs on new or existing funds, non-registered and registered, is scheduled to end March 1, 2023. Nevertheless, the CSR offered to place a rate hold for 30 days on the 5.25% promo.
