I think the Big 5 banks also share a common back office utility to do stuff like recordkeeping and issuing T5's etc. It's economy of scale. I could be wrong and each bank do their own stuff.Don't credit unions have the same arrangement among themselves?
I'm all for sharing software among end users, but it takes effort to secure the systems so that each user only has access to their own data. That doesn't appear to be happening with GIC Wealth Management/Monarch if clients are getting statements with the other company's logo and address on it.
FIs' and credit unions' spending on IT departments and data security is an order of magnitude higher than small businesses, but they are both collecting my personal info. That's why I prefer to deal directly with the big outfits.

Of course, something is wrong when clients get statements with the other ("independent") company's logo and address. There is a need to ensure much better security and protection of personal information.

I may have received the same notice from Monarch that other GIC Wealth clients got. There were no financial details revealed. It was a notice saying my statement is ready and what to do to access it, but the notice, at the top, indicated that it was from Monarch. The info at the bottom said it was from GIC Wealth. The link takes you to the GIC Wealth website where you input your own GIC Wealth passwords to see your GIC Wealth statement. Aside from the unfortunate confusion over which investment broker sent the notice, there was no security breach, to the best of my knowledge.

It is a bit unusual that Monarch can ‘see’ email addresses of GIC Wealth’s clients. Both can use the same GIC recording system/software/service provider, but all info including contact info should be 100% separate and secure behind firewall one would think.

While I will admit I was not happy to see the Monarch logo on the email I received, I have not lost a penny from this little hiccup & feel my money is safe & the rates I received at the time I purchased the GIC's was much better than anything I could find at the time so I'm still a happy customer. I had never used a GIC broker before going with GIC Wealth Management & I did my dd to the point I was comfortable dealing with them & am happy I did.

Clearly Kevin has a problem he needs to fix. I know it's not the first problem he's had with his computer system this year. May need to hire someone else instead but that would no doubt be a hassle too - and might affect the interest rates he can offer us.
We all know about the low unemployment rate right now and how difficult it can be to hire competent people in some fields.
I have confidence in Kevin's integrity, both from meeting with him at his office for at least an hour and from doing business with him.
I don't feel that I'm at risk, especially when I think of all the successful hacks that have occurred elsewhere. This was not a hack, just an error, from what I can tell.
I hope he is able to get the problem fixed asap.

Regarding the statements, I found this, thusly expressed in English:
"Effective Nov 1. 2022 GICdirect.com Financial Services Ltd. became a part of the Monarch Wealth group of companies. Together we encapsulate all the services and products we can provide as Monarch Wealth GIC Services Inc. doing business as GICdirect."
If it is so, Peter could remove one company from the "GIC brokers" quotations.
