This special has been in effect for a while. Don't know how long it will last. Current rates are :

Long Term Non-Redeemable Term Deposits Rates
1 Year 1.60%
2 Year 2.00%
3 Year 2.85%
4 Year 3.00%
5 Year 3.75%

Membership Rules:

Each applicant must be an Ontario resident
Each applicant must be at least 18 years of age or older
Each applicant may request a personal account in a single name only (joint accounts/investments are available)
Each applicant will become a Member by investing $25.00 for FirstOntario shares (share requirement is 5 shares at $5.00 each).
Each applicant will mail a personalized cheque payable to FirstOntario Credit Union in the amount of $25, from a Canadian Financial Institution, that includes your full name, address and account details to the address provided at the end of this application.

By purchasing shares at FirstOntario, you become a Member. As a Member, you are a shareholder with a voice, an opportunity to vote. ANYONE residing in the province of Ontario can become a Member of FirstOntario.

Once your cheque is received and has cleared your originating account, confirmation and full documentation on your share account will be sent to you in the mail (approximately 10 business days)
