It's been a several years since I opened a HISA at CTB, and I never purchased a GIC from them. As I recall it took a couple of weeks to set up the account. Only part of the application was online, and we had to send in paper copies of voided cheques.
There were no particular problems in dealing with CTB, except that their phone lines close early (out in BC), as they are set up for Ontario business hours.
I closed our accounts at the end of last year, and I will note that if you ever close accounts, make sure to download all your statements beforehand. They lock your electronic access afterwards, and charge $5 per statement to provide them going forward.

Were there not reports that CDN Tire Bank modified their policy on withdrawals severely limiting how much could be moved out?
That combined with non competitive interest rates and clumsy customer service might make them a less attractive prospect.
What is attracting you to CDN Tire at this time?

+1. The CT rates are mediocre at best and no reason to bank with them in my opinion.
Last time I asked them and confirmed, I cant even use my CT account balance to pay the balance of my CT credit card easily. I am like WTF

I’ve had an account for several years and also have their Mastercard. Occasionally their rates are decent. I also had a couple of GIC’s when they have had competitive rates. I auto pay the credit card from my CT savings account and I use the Mastercard to pay my property tax, Income tax, Hydro, Gas bill, and anything else that can’t be paid by any other credit card that I know of to receive 1% CT money on those bills. Never had a problem. This is not my main cc or savings account. I keep a minimum amount to cover my CT Mastercard in my CT savings.

Please find attached to this e-mail our Fixed Rate GICs prospectus and CIDC information guide. The GICs in this prospectus guarantee a fixed rate of return over each term and are CDIC covered for $100,000 per investor.
They offered me 7% for 5 years. They want to fill out the application over the phone so I can give them my personal information.

Sounds like another incarnation of that phony GIC scam earlier that was impersonating UBS Bank.
