The people on GIS will be getting more money than those simply getting OAS. Eligibility for GIS is dependent on income. Therefore updated income information will show if you are still eligible for GIS.
For the OAS supplement, your tax return won't make any difference. It's not taxable and there is no income qualification to get it. However, I heard the Minister(?) say a day or two ago that it is for "low and modest income" people, and I didn't know what was meant by that. GIS is clearly for low income people, but OAS is for everyone even if clawed back. Regular OAS is taxable, but GIS is not, if I remember correctly.
I was surprised to hear that this money is going out in July as I coulda sworn they said earlier that it would come with the June OAS payment.

Chatted briefly with store Mgr. of my RCSS today, and among other things, like short shipping on many SKUs, some cuts of Beef have gone up as much as $11.00kg this week !!!!
My freezer is looking a bit empty these days, so looks like I'll need that $300 asap, to cover the cost of a single decent grade Tenderloin, so steaks can be on the menu at some point this summer.
otherwise, Hamburger Helper and fixins it will be ... I guess. đ

I can buy Wagyu beef dog food for my dog quite cheaply. LOL

How come steaks for humans are getting so costly?

If you buy it, that must make you "dog's best beefriend"!
More seriously, there was an interview on the Sunday morning show on CBC radio last week (I forget the name of the show) with an Oklahoma cattle farmer, head of some farm organization. I didn't listen closely enough to follow the argument. You might be able to find it online. Basically he was talking about shortages o in food production. Wish I'd paid better attention. It sounded worrisome for beef eaters and farmers, at a minimum.

I think the issue is the concentration of beef processing.
Apparently, two large beef processing plants Alberta, for example, do 70% of Canada's beef. So, when they have to cut production or shutdown because of COVID-19, there is a large impact on the beef supply chain to the grocery stores.
There's no shortage of cattle. But, there seems to be a bottleneck right now in the processing of the cattle into the beef products we buy in the grocery stores, like steaks and ground beef.
More details are in articles like CBC: Why some think Canada's beef business needs more smaller players.

Yes, the guy from Oklahoma was saying something similar about the US. I did hear him refer to concentration into 3 businesses, only one of which is US-owned, but did not catch their function. Must have been the processing plants.
So, we can't look to the US to pick up the slack. And, if there is a shortage, Trump would probably prevent them exporting it anyway.

Hmm.... I've been doing a bit more checking, and my problem could be related to not yet being formally registered with Service Canada because I'm on OAS deferral.
I consequently tried to register online with Service Canada as a first step to get things fixed, but I didn't get very far because their online registration system requires that you first be sent an access code in the mail (similar to how setting up CRA MyAccount works). That would have been fine, except their system wouldn't let me even request, much less issue that online access code. Instead, the interface just kept giving me the same error message that my SIN, name and birth information doesn't match their records, which is complete BS. Maybe it's just overloaded and giving out false error messages, who knows.
I then resorted to calling their registration helpline, but it's just a phonebot that eventually says everyone's too busy to take your call and then hangs up without taking any information from you with which to follow up. It's all very Kafka.
Eventually I found an alternative Service Canada help page elsewhere, and I was able to make an online request for a call-back to hopefully get my code sent out manually since I'm going to have to register with them for OAS sooner or later anyway, even if we never find my COVID payment. I should learn more next week.

From the gov't site:
"Eligibility
The one-time payment for seniors is available to individuals who are eligible to receive the Old Age Security pension or the Guaranteed Income Supplement in June 2020.
How to apply
You do not have to apply. All individuals who are eligible to receive the Old Age Security pension or the Guaranteed Income Supplement in June 2020 will receive the one-time payment for seniors."
So am I "eligible" for June 2020 OAS if I'm 65 by then, whether I've applied for OAS or not, or whether I'm actually getting it or not? Or do I have to actually be getting OAS for June 2020 to get this money?
Globe and Mail June 5 Report on Business had a headline "For thousands of seniors, deferring pension means being denied emergency aid", but I can't read the article as I'm not a subscriber.
In any event there doesn't seem to be an application process for it, they seem to know who they consider to be "eligible" and who's getting the payment, which suggests to me it was sent to people actually already receiving OAS.

Tell the government to pass bill c-17. People with disabilities seem to always get shafted. Â
"Always" isn't the word I'd use. Depending upon the disability and who or what caused it... as a tax payer (this may sound cold hearted) I shouldn't be the one paying for everyone's physical or mental problem. To be honest, i just don't care about you. This belief that i am owed, or i have an entitlement just drives me insane.
Hey... if i go insane will i get a disability payment? Will i even know if i get a payment or not?
If sliced bread is one of the best inventions (or was it the wheel?) A liberal by far has to be the worst.

Kidd, Iâm one of the hard working people that simply ended up with physical medical problems due to no fault of my own. I have three university degrees and worked hard and paid plenty of taxes too. Just because I am unable to work, doesnât mean I shouldnât get help too. Many Seniors donât work and they have gotten plenty of COVID-19 support.
If thatâs the way you feel, then You are a hypocrite for living in Canada.

Great idea, Dean! There is money being given out now in "broad strokes" as many have urgent need and it would take forever to sort out a more targeted system, especially with employees in isolation.
So it makes sense to pass it on if you don't need it. If nothing else comes to mind, your local food bank would appreciate it, and they do serve a lot of seniors.. . .
Thanks for the idea, Loonie â
Donating 'directly' to our local Food Bank (via cheque) will help our local low-income seniors ... and other's too.
And to the *&^%$# 'Scrooges' that Lurk here on these forms . . .
Think Again â
 Â
As an update . . .
My wife and I just donated our 'Seniors Justin Moolah' ($300 + $300 = $600) to our local Food Bank.
We hope it helps those in our area (low-income seniors & others) who are in need.
Thanks again to Loonie for the suggestion â

If you have CRA MyAccount, you should be able to get to Service Canada through it. Login to MyAccount and check bottom right of the main page:
Alternatively, another approach. As it happened, I requested online access codes for myself at different times. They sent me same code every time. If you used access code for MyAccount and you still have it, you can try it with Service Canada. It might work.

Unfortunately this appears to be the case. Apparently some bureaucrat in Ottawa decided that if you're on deferral, you don't merit COVID assistance.
"Under Ottawa's definition, those seniors who have chosen to defer their pensions, in order to receive higher payments in the future, don't meet the eligibility requirement."
End of story. Despite the obvious temptation to turn this thread into a political rant, I'm not going to do that because it won't change anything.
