Hello Everyone,

I know many might not like the idea but I wonder if subscribing to a newsletter would make a real practical sense for a successful investing?

From my research, I found tsinetwork which seems to include good free resources and articles so I am wondering if anyone here used any similar newsletters and if they are useful at all?

After couple months of trading regular stocks, I found it very stressful and I don't think I can handle the stress anymore (Some people here advised me to avoid it but I didn't listen :( ) so I am looking for investing in ETFs but still don't know how to pick good growing ETFs.

Currently most of my RRSP / TFSA are being managed by Financial Corporations with crappy return (1% to 5% yearly average). I really don't want to keep working 8 - 5 every single day till I am 65 so I am looking for good 10% return to save me some years of hard working.

Thank you and I appreciate any feedback.

I couple things come to mind:

http://canadiancouchpotato.com/
Recommended funds and model ETF portfolios

http://www.moneysense.ca/
In terms of a newsletter/magazine

https://www.wealthsimple.com/
As one of a few robo-advisors that might be of interest to your investing style, there are others, that's the first that popped into mind.

One has to watch newsletters as they all contain the bias of the author AND they usually promote the investing strategy of the author.

MoneySense magazine is a good magazine. Back copies should be available in one's public library. It contains more than one point of view but always from the perspective of keeping coss down. Good advice for anyone.

Canadian Couch Potato is also good from an index investing perspective.

Then there is always the resources of http://www.finiki.org for a plethora of investing subjects and recommended reading.

Yas,

Visit the i shares website and educate yourself on the different etfs out there. The nice thing about etfs are that the MERs are low. They are however passive and just seek to mirror the returns of the basket of stocks of the underlying index that they track.

Good luck and remember to always build a diversified portfolio that is rebalanced frequently.

I agree with above recommendations. Sorry the DIY didn't work out as well as you'd hoped.

The thing you have to ask yourself about newsletters, which are typically fairly expensive, is, if this person or company is really so great at advice, why aren't they just sitting there in the sun managing their millions instead of trying to sell newsletters? Answer: because the income from the newsletters is more reliable than the advice, even advice to self.

I liken the newsletter industry to the advisor industry. There is no advisor on the face of the earth who will guarantee results of recommended investments except for GICs and bonds which you could buy without their help. They can't provide a guarantee, because markets are unpredictable. A newsletter audience, however, is golden - for them.

This doesn't necessarily mean they're all bad, but it does make me sceptical. And it makes me realize I have no more ability to pick a reliable newsletter than a reliable stock.

A depressing warning though is that it's very possible, even likely, that you will not be able to count on 10% returns. There will be ups and downs, no matter what. I have not heard any usually-reliable-source suggest that returns in the current climate are likely to be anywhere near 10%. Aim for about 5 and be pleasantly surprised if you hit 7; overjoyed if you hit 10.

ertyu, AltaRed, Yatti420, panache - Thanks for the URLs and advice. I added those two to my favorite too :)

Loonie - It's okay. Even though I feel depressed not because of it didn't work but because I failed in this challenge. I still remember when we had the conversation where you told me "I will learn in the hard way". Well, yes, I did. Admit it and move on :)

Regarding the newsletters, you are absoluteness right. I actually asked one of them the exact same question. Why do you bother doing this if you make enough money in your investments? His response was funny "Because, I was asked to do so". So, I am just going to use the public free information and do my own DD.

Even an average 5 - 6% would be awesome. I will try and see how it goes. I am sure we'll talk again soon because I'd like to write about my experiences which might help someone out there.

Thank you,
