Those messages are almost certainly NOT coming from CIBC or Scotia. They're mass spammers, like the guys who phone to say your Amazon account needs updating, you have cash coming from CRA, or there's a warrant out for your arrest at the border. They spam with common institutions many people use, and only need a couple of hits on real people to make money.
I get all manner of communications from "institutions" I have never used or often even heard of: Amazon, E-Bay, Google, Visa, MasterCard, CRA, Apple, BC Hydro, Microsoft (with the usual Delhi accent) and many more.
Ignore them or look up a known, published number if curious.

Not a good attempt at humour on my part, I suppose.

I've got SMS from nice people named Bill and Melinda, who want to share their wealth with me.
I don't know why, I didn't bother to call back and ask.
Perhaps, with new capital gains tax rates they'll pay more to the government coffers and this will help them deal with all extra money they apparently have. Instead of bothering me.
