I guess we will soon be without RetirEd. It was nice knowing you and reading your posts.
It is better and more healthful to drink your own piss than that garbage.
Did you try brake fluid? Antifreeze? Battery acid? Used engine oil? Yummy!!!
Between my own piss vs Coke, I will drink Coke, at least die happy.
I stockpile toilet paper, paper towel etc when they are on deep sale, I stop buying 2l Coke when I can no longer get it at $1 since last year. My principle is I will eat junk food that will kill me, but at least I pay the discounted price only. Applies to McD, KFC, u name it,

Same here; I've got a 2-yr supply of TP to await the next sale.
I don't normally eat fast food, but I will if they work hard enough for my money. McD and KFC never do, but Wendy's gives the fair price/deal occasionally. I almost feel obligated to support business that offers fair or reasonable prices. i.e. Wendy's offered a 1/2 pound baconator for $5

I was quote 5.7% on a 1 year GIC @ RBC. 5% on 3 yr and 5% on 5 year. Not sure what to do?
5.7% for 1-year GIC is better than the top-rated on my list (5.6%) and better than the best broker rate (5.65%) the last time I checked (Jul 13). Not sure what your goals are but that is a good 1-year rate. I am only doing 1 and 2 year GICs for several reasons - age is one of them. I am betting on interest rates not dropping any time soon. Good chance it will go a bit higher yet. We have 3 more rate amount announcements for the year. Sep 6, Oct 25 and Dec 6.

Wow, talk about topic drift!
This is my last comment on Coke(TM) consumption:
Rail Baron: Acid will dissolve meat. That's how our digestive tracts work, and they are designed to tolerate stomach acids - which are much stronger than the mild phosphoric acid in Coke(TM).
Pooreva: Stockpiling does not increase consumption. It just locks in low prices, like buying an Atlanta-based GIC. How many of us spend more just because we bought a GIC?
savemoresaveoften and HermanH: Right - paper products (bumwad, paper towels, nose tissues etc.) have long storage lives and regularly go on sale for half their "retail" price. I stock up on them, too. Certain products like shampoos and deodorants go on sale at regular seasonal times, and keep well, too.
cgouimet: The fries are the worst deal, by and large, at fast-food joints. And the coated "stucco fries" that have taken over the market suck. Ugh. As for the drinks, I never buy fountain drinks ("hose drinks"). They're always mis-mixed, watered with too much ice (even if you demand no ice) and hard to carry out, too. Once a year I'll have a shake, but mostly I either had water (no more since cup charges!) or my own discount Coke(TM) at home or in my bag.
dentgal: At my age, most of my teeth are protectively capped and immune to attack. And sugar does NOT cause diabetes! It aggravates the disease in those who have it, but the predisposition is largely genetic. Obesity in general is associated with higher diabetes risk, but not sugar in general. Nobody in my family has ever had diabetes, and I show no signs of it at my advanced age. My bone density scans are great, too!
Now, back to our regularly-scheduled discussion of interest rates!

Fries and fountain drinks are where fast-food restaurants make their money. They are high-margin products, which is why so many deals require them as part of the purchase.
