Let's talk math.
Fed carbon tax rebate for a family of 4 in 2019 = $307
Carbon tax at gas pump (for your vehicle) 4.4 cents per litre.
So... you use 50 litres a week that's $2.20
Say for 50 weeks that's $110 FOR ONE CAR.
Most households have at least 2 cars.
Natural gas, to those who are unaware... it's used to heat your home in winter.
Carbon tax 3.91 cents per cubic metre.
Average home bill will increase, $94
So how does that $307 look so far?
So now you understand, YOUR own personal costs are going up.
That person/company who rely on vehicles for transportation/deliveries. You know their added carbon tax costs will be passed down to you?
So to krwilson....to make you happy. Please give me $500 and i'll gladly give you $307.

University of Calgary study suggests. For trudeau's $307 carbon tax rebate in ontario, we pay $650 to $700.
And i am willing to pay everyone here in this forum $307, if you are willing to give me $500. Please, form a line, don't push.

Some guy (often a smiling rich guy of privilege waving to the media as he goes for yet another environment-destroying plane ride) coins a new term like "climate emergency" and the sheep immediately adopt it as another mantra. My view is there is no environment problem, it's the most recent of humanity's frequent mass hysterias, so just relax. No-one today has read the ancients, no-one today knows or cares about human or earth's history, so they think their dangers are unique and unprecedented. In any event, the Canada carbon-tax will have zero effect on earth's environment, ever, its actual purpose is to virtue-signal one's moral and ethical virtue, and it serves that purpose very well for its adherents.

Your "views" don't matter. Reality will not treat you or your family any more kindly because you didn't agree with it.
But your views may allow you to "relax" in the interim, and do squat. Perhaps you could take up the fiddle? Not only was it Nero's favourite instrument, but it provided a nice orchestral send-off for those on the Titanic.

I agree; the challenge is almost overwhelming.
But that doesn't give us permission to sit on our duffs waiting politely for other countries to smarten up while we continue with our old habits.
It's much more than getting rid of plastic straws etc., although that may halp.
Learn as much as you can about how to work with others to limit this catastrophe. You're not going to solve it alone, and neither is Canada, but we do have a role to play and, on a per capita basis, we create a lot of problems which we could change..

Apparently more explanation is needed. When our leaders (and their entourages) for example, happily hop on planes whenever they get a chance, especially in a time when face-to-face communication is readily available electronically, it's a sign there's no emergency. When young folks say they value travel & experiences over possessions, and happily travel the world regularly (they even bring their entourages on this new thing called "destination weddings"), it's a sign there's no emergency. Personally, I MIGHT believe it when they shut down air travel and private vehicle ownership. And until then I've no need to virtue-signal by accusing others of being more profligate than I am.
