hi doug, you are right, when i went to scotiabank and asked about changing my
"scotiabank-toronto" account into "scotiabank-richmond" account, they said
they wont change any transit number whatever so i will not have to worry about changing this and that account number and writing mails to various agencies that has link to my account number.

by the way, i notice that you really like your SCENEvisa card for movies stuff. i did switch my old scotiacard into scenecard this october, and i thought i could also get an instant 1000 points (1000points=1movieticket) but it looks i got the wrong idea. anyway here is the email from SCENE:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good day,

Thank you for your e-mail. Please be advised that as of January 1st, 2010 there was a reduction to the SCENE Scotiacard Bonus Offers.

Scotiabank Customers who open a SCENE Eligible account as they will still receive 1000 Points for linking and 1000 Points for their Pre-Authorized Banking. However, customers with an existing SCENE Eligible Account will not receive Points for linking. In addition, effective July 01, 2009 existing Scotiacard customers who switch their Regular ScotiaCard to a SCENE ScotiaCard will no longer receive 500 SCENE points for having Pre-authorized banking attached to their account.

In the situation where it is a joint account the Pre-authorized Bonus will be split evenly between SCENE card holders.

Regards,

when i opened a SCENE account, they "ONLY" give me the initial 250points. so my guess is that will all the minimal spending i am using for this SCENECARD, it will be probably last quarter of 2011 that i will get to 1000points 😮

It definitely makes sense to transfer your accounts and glad it was relatively quick and painless. Did they just make you sign a transfer paper and/or new signature card for imaging?

Oh, that sucks about the SCENE points. 🙁

I signed up for SCENE almost on day one in 2007 and back then you got 2000 bonus points for signing up for a SCENE Visa and making your first purchase plus 2000 bonus points setting up two pre-authorized payments or direct deposits and I think 1000 points for converting your ScotiaCard to a SCENE ScotiaCard. Plus, I got the 250 points for becoming a SCENE member. That's 5250 points (or five movie tickets). I also spotted some typos in a Scotiabank junk mailing trying to get me to sign up for a Scotiabank Value Visa that was "pre-approved" so I e-mailed the party that signed the junk mailing and she was so appreciative I spotted their spelling mistakes she gave me 2000 more bonus points as a "thank-you" but then they accidentally credited me twice so I actually got 4000 more points. That brought me up to 9250 points and I've since put on an average of 1500-2000 points from Scene Visa purchases (that's where it adds up, at 1 point per $1 of spending and no annual fee versus 1 point for $5 of ScotiaCard purchases). I think I'm up to something like 16,000 points and change but there's no movies I want to see! 🙁

Cheers,
Doug

Doug,i havent officially transferred my accounts yet. I just only went at Scotia and asked some questions about it. And the girl explained that, I will have to sign some documents and the process would take about 7 minutes. You see, there is some voice in the back of my mind that says, "I might be going back to Toronto after some time.." That's why. You know, I just came here in BC to have a vacation/visit some relatives (after being unemployed in Toronto for some time) and I was able to get a job here and then right now I realize, i've been 10 months staying here already! Guess, its also because of the saying, "Go, where the job is. That's why, Im still kinda stuck here in BC)

anyway, change topic...

wow, a SCENE hotshot! you have a lot of Scene points!!! (man, i only have 263 points) You better GO watch one of these days. just GO.

and another topic...
this is another experience at my bank, Scotiabank.
actually, its just of of those WTF moments with my bank.
first of all, im not bad-mouthing or anything my bank. i just think,
that David Bach (author of Fight for your Money) is really right.
you know how banks have these high and mighty big buildings and soon and so forth?
first and foremost, it came from the FEES, FEES, and numerous fees they
charge on us everyday we try to do our business with them. i mean, anyway,
this is what happened to me:
a.) i have actually an automatic deduction setup with scotiabank for my World Vision. its basically $35 dollars every 16th of the month. and oh well, this october, our paycheck came late and what can i do? i have no money! im just smiling
what will happen. i really have no money. anyway, have you ever had a negative
balance on your checking account? I did. i only have $1.74 left.

so what happened?
oh well, come the dreaded date, Scotiabank charged me:
a) $5.00 for "Overdrawn Handling Chg."
b) $4.60 "Service Charge - Monthly Fees"
so when i check my balance online, i have -$42.86! hahaha. negative! welcome to the club!!! (have you ever had a negative balance? oh sure, i did.)

now, i have, really, really no complain on "a)" i accept it, that was my fault.
in fact, i am so relieved that, they charge me $5.00 and not $40 they charge for NSF. but on "b)" i kindy find it weird, why in the world they charge $4.60 and not the usual $3.95??? (for if your monthly balance is below $1,500 a monthly charge of $3.95 is made) so i went to the bank and asked about it.

ohh well my foot, thanks for asking! they explained to me that i did a bill payment (CRA payment) so that another, $3.95 + 65c = $4.60!

and so that is the reason why they charge me $4.60. ok, thank you.
oh well, guess what? after two days, i checked my balance again (at this
time i already deposited some cash to make my account balance positive),
and this is my WTF moment from Scotiabank:

they freakin charge me: $1.00 for that inquiry i made! mind you, i did
not even get a hardcopy of it, just a word from one of the teller and
oh yeah. wTF that is. what kind of horseshit is this!!! what a pain in the "you-know-where" is this?

CHECK OUT OFFICIAL SCOTIABANK Account Fees at a Glance,
http://i1038.photobucket.com/a....._fee-1.jpg

look, i gave up. really. what can i do?

me: "Hi, miss scotiabank, i would like to make a balance inquiry on my account
because i find something wrong on my account charges this month...."

scotiabank: "of course well, do. but that would be $1.00, sir."

@#^@#^$!!!

................................CANADA SAVINGS BOND..............................

i know, lots of you would say, what the heck am i thinking? Canada savings bond is purely simply absolutely a bad investment with their interest rate (2010) of

canada savings bonds = 0.6%
canada premium bonds = 1.1%

you say just invest in GICs, or TFSAs, etc. i agree.
but that is not the topic here. Relax!!!

since i never had a copy of myself of these canada savings brohaha, (okay, maybe i just google search it and see how do they look but the thing is, i want to have them, touch them, smell them okay?) so i ordered them, $100 each, at my banks and on my own via canada savings bond website then made a comparison:

Financial Institution Date Ordered Date Received Days lapsed
Coast Capital October 6 November 24 48
Myself via website October 28 December 7 39
Scotiabank October 10 has not arrived* ??

*when i received my bonds from coast capital (they called me first) i also visited scotiabank to inquire about mine (they are about 100 meters apart anyway) but the teller on scotiabank said, they still dont have it and they will just call me. oh well, a review of my scotiabank account statement, a $100 debit memo was made by the bank on December 1, 2010. That means, they weren't able to buy the November 1, 2010 issue and so they bought for me, the December 2010 issue instead. That's the problem with BIG banks I guess. Too many customers, too less time to focus on each customer. I guess, my canada savings bond from scotiabank will arrive in January! which i therefore conclude, bigger is not always better...

oh well, some good news (if its good at all) from scotiabank's powerchequing account holders:

http://scotiabank.com/images/e...../25257.pdf

basically, we are being charged $3.95/month if we don't meet the minimum requirements of $1,500 monthly balance right? on this news, on Feb.1, 2011 they will reduce the $1,500 monthly balance to $1,000 and we dont get charged $3.95/month anymore. its about time! scotiabank should be doing long time ago anyway, check out the other competing chequing accounts from the other banks; BMO, CIBC, RBC & TD Bank have all $1,000 minimum balance.
