I'm wondering what it means for Quebec's Tangerine customers. We had no problem with ATM access when ING was using the Exchange network. With the switch to Scotia/Tangerine, some areas are not well deserved or, even worse, not deserved at all.
Tangerine said at the time that they were looking at a long term solution and that part of that solution was to implement ATM in Couche-Tard in Quebec (http://www.theglobeandmail.com.....0903.C9313). The plan was to install 287 ATM in the same Couche-Tard to augment their presence in the province to 444.
This simply doesn't add up with this week announcement from Manulife...

According to Couche-Tard: Canada Business Unit, they have about 1,853 locations across Canada. 556 of those locations are in Quebec West.
Couche-Tard appears to have more than enough locations for both the 287 ATM's in Quebec proposed by Tangerine and the 830 Exchange Network ATM's announced by Manulife.

Somewhere back when Scotia bought ING I posted pondering whether it was possible to have a ATM agreement between Scotia\Tang and The Exchange.. Somewhere along the lines we would of seen Tangerine customers continue to use The Exchange while Scotia offering up their network for The Exchange use resulting in a massive footprint expansion for both networks.
This isn't to say there wouldn't be areas not covered but Manulife wouldn't be footing the bill (i'm assuming) to expand their own branded machine network. Or atleast it wouldn't be that many machines etc..
Scotia/Tangerine and The exchange had a great opportunity to expand their ATM network.. I personally am not happy and as Scotia branches get further and further away (for some reason) makes it harder to get money when I actually need cash.
