Thank you so much for maintaining this chart Norman1. I find this chart just as useful as the HISA and GIC charts that Peter maintains.

A tiny little ask I have is: Could an asterisk or something be put beside rates that have recently changed? (in the last week or something) It would help keep track of which ISA's have factored in the latest BoC rate change, and which are holding on to rates that are most likely about to change.

Just scroll up a number of posts and it is self-evident. The ones that have changed are stated as such. In this case, anything pre-Dec 11th would be from the prior BoC rate.

Only 3 have not yet changed and they will occur any day now.

Is there any online link to BMO's interest rates for ISAs? Unlike most other big banks, their online information sheet does not include rates, and suggests contacting one's investment dealer for such info.

The only way I know to get the BMO rates is to log into one's BMOIL account and select the HISA, GIC, Bonds tab.

Utter nonsense... unless the BMO ones are ONLY available to BMOIL, BMOIL Advice Direct and BMO Nesbitt Burns type account holders.

As of posting, BMO ISA rates remain unchanged. Just checked.

I think QTrade sells pretty much everyone on the chart except for BMO, so BMO probably only sells those in-house.

I've added an indicator to the rates that are expected to still change. As AltaRed described, the response to the Bank of Canada announcement has been quick and most of the issuers have responded.

Awesome Norman, thanks a bunch! sf-cool That will be helpful to those that just take a cursory look at your very useful chart (rather than following the posts), from trading out of a dropped ISA into another one that has yet to take the plunge.

It looks like Home Bank and Home Trust rates have declined today to 2.9% for Series A. This puts their ISA rates considerably below their HISA rate of 3.4% available through an Oaken savings account.

Has there been there any correlation between changes in Home Trust's ISA rates and Oaken's HISA rates in the past?

Not directly as far as I know as they target different markets. ISA rates are almost exclusively tied to money markets (like MMFs) via investors, while retail HISA rates are related to competition for the retail saver. Back in 2020/2021, ISA rates were in the 0.2-0.25% range along with the BoC overnight rate.

Thanks for the insight. It now looks like Oaken Savings HISA would be better to park short term funds in, as compared to the Home Trust ISA. Oaken's HISA rate is holding up at 3.4% for the moment.

For the moment. It makes no sense for Oaken HISA to have a yield above the BoC rate despite their loan book needs so that will have to change relatively quickly. Variable rate mortgages from the big banks are now in the 4.5-4.8% range (prime less 50-100 bp or so) so they cannot continue to squeeze their NIM (Net Interest Margin) that tight.... Granted Oaken (Home) is now no longer publicly traded, but Stephen Smith doesn't run his business as charities.

My guess is Oaken's rate will drop pretty quickly to 3% or less.

Well, Oaken has cancelled the annual holiday chocolates and the birthday gift cards at McDonalds (!), so that should help their bottom line, notwithstanding tight NIMs. sf-wink

Oaken will do so shortly. Alexandra reported an e-mail notice that the rate will drop to 3%, effective tomorrow.
