Advisor based accounts usually charge a "% of AUM" fee to manage an account and if so, they cannot double dip by collecting a trailer fee on product. Thus post #402 is correct from that perspective.
Post #403 is also correct in that if no advice is provided (DIY discount brokerage), then there cannot be a trailer fee collected by the brokerage. However, this recent regulatory requirement to NOT charge trailer fees in DIY (no advice) accounts only applies to actual mutual funds. These ISAs are not mutual funds and thus do not fall under that regulatory requirement. They are 'unique' products in that regard.
Scotia iTrade is doing the right thing by making F series available to DIY clients (no fee based advice) even though they are under no obligation to do so. Much (not all) of their competition will only sell A series to their clients and pocket the trailer fee. A few independents will also sell F series ISAs to their clients.
In most cases, the trailer fee is circa 15-25 basis points (not 10-15 as I previously posted) so that becomes the difference in yield if one can get F series.
