Still mulling the options. The move to QC will be in July, so there's still time to choose. I've had really good experiences with Hubert and EQ so I'm looking for something comparable to replace them because they are not available in QC.
Maxa seems clunky. Both Implicity and Outlook Financial appear to use the same platform as Alterna, as they use "Me2Me transfers".
So I am narrowing it down (I hope) to Implicity or Outlook. Any preferences? I emailed both. Got an answer from Implicity in a day or so. Outlook needed a reminder but I finally got a reply in a week, so Implicity gets the edge for customer service.
Any other thoughts?

I would go with Implicity. Outlook, in my opinion, has huge customer service and system issues.
If you are already with Hubert, what happens if you change your address to Quebec? Ask them?

I agree that you should ask any financial institution that you are dealing with happily now about whether you can keep your account if you move out of province. Some will allow this; others won't. It may depend on the reason they don't offer accounts in the province in question. I think QC may have language rules that make it difficult for some to operate there.
Alternatively, you could just change your address and see what happens. Maybe nothing will happen as no human being is actually looking at addresses once you've signed up. The only thing they seem to use an address for is... what? Some don't even send you a T slip by post; it is online foryou to find. Hubert sends by post but it actually comes from the parent company, Sunova.

Wow! retep and Loonie - thanks bigly! You raise some really good points. I am going to explore the answers. I think I'll start by asking Hubert and EQ some hypothetical questions.I'll report back to this space with what I find out.
Do you have any 5 year GIGs with Hubert?

That's a good question. They probably aren't going to terminate your GICs just because you move. That will keep your membership alive.
I recall, by the way, that Hubert got its knuckles rapped quite early in its career because of advertising outside of MB, which is not allowed. This may have made them cautious.

Here is what their web site says.
Absolutely! But first you have to meet a few requirements. You must be at least 18 years of age, have an account and a personalized cheque from another Canadian financial institution, have a valid SIN and email address, and agree to invest in a $5 refundable share. Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot offer Hubert services to Quebec residents. Please keep in mind that Hubert only offers personal accounts. You cannot open a business or trust account with Hubert.
So know concerned about death and the need for trust Account until probate is done.

A five-year GIC would be an idea, though I'd only get one if it meant that I could still use my savings account during those five years. I will try contacting them this week to see what they say. Though I'd want something in writing from a supervisor/manager in order to have son confidence in the answer.

Email them or do the chat option and screen print it.

If you ever decide you want to get a Desjardins credit card (since they have the best emergency travel medical) you might want to open a basic Desjardins bank account since that allows you to add a secondary card holder for free.
If you are a professional, they will give you first year free for the credit card.

Desjardins doesn't have good HISA interest rates, but they might be ok for a bricks and mortar financial institution that most people need.
If you want to spread your money risk, you might want to add Motive Financial since they are in a different province (Alberta), and have very high interest rates at the moment. If you open both a Savvy Savings and a Cha-Ching Chequing, you can transfer between the two accounts as often as you like, and get unlimited free chequing with the Cha Ching chequing account.
