Why not allow manual entry of account info? Probably to avoid entry errors and the inevitable questions from clients as to how to obtain this info. That is why many other banks require a void cheque to get this info. Look at it from the bank's perspective; manual entry errors are a time eating nuisance, which means money.
Again, if you're concerned about entering your login info, change it before and after. A bit of paranoia is good where your bank security is concerned. But if you don't trust them at all, why bank with them?

Link new account feature not currently working. It sees the accounts at the other FI, but fails when you try to link a new one.
I tried linking a different USD account at RBC yesterday and today and it is failing. I chatted with a rep this morning who said they are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. No timeline for a fix.
He suggested trying a different browser, clearing cache, cookies and browsing history, and also trying the mobile app. I tried all and nothing worked. I tried Chrome and Firefox on Windows, and the Android app. I cleared cache and cookies in Chrome but not Firefox.
He suggested setting up pre authorized debit at the other FI as a workaround. I will wait and try again every day or so as I am in no hurry.

Linking external accounts with EQ is a hit and miss.
Found on hard way. Tried to link CIBC for last 3 months with return message 'invalid credentials'. Figured out EQ cannot pass certain special characters. I had *&#!@ etc. as part of my CIBC password.
Solution for me was to change my CIBC pass to 'simple' one - 1 capital, few lower letters, few numbers. ONLY THEN linking worked as expected. Pass change was for linking only, reversed it back to whatever I had before...

Interesting. I had an ! in my RBC password last Thursday when it worked and again yesterday and this morning when it didn't. I removed it just now, so it only contains numbers, upper and lower case letters. Still showing the RBC accounts, but failing when I try to link a new one. Still some glitches in the process.

It would appear there is no workaround to EQ Bank's method of linking external accounts. We will have to decide which is more important -- our principles or higher interest rate. The EQ Bank rep I dealt with was excellent and a credit to the organization.
Hi _________.
Further to our conversation regarding the opening of a $US Bank Account with EQ Bank you advised me to have RBC prepare a cheque for me to assist with the linking of accounts.
Today I visited an RBC branch and requested a cheque be cut for the purpose. I was advised they could not do that. They offered to prepare a draft. The only way to get cheque for this account is to buy 50 cheques. I have no need for 50 cheques. I have no need for any cheques.
They did offer to print a void cheque for the account and stamp it for verification. I have attached a copy of that document. We have tried the void cheque route before so not sure it is worth mailing to you without EQ Bank accepting the stamped void cheque as valid for linking purposes.
Not sure we are going to be successful with this. It is my goal to transfer $US16,200 to my EQ Bank $US account with more to come if the $C rate continues to rise.
Is there any way to make this work? It is a very crude method for me to pass on my RBC account password to you to pass to another company that I know nothing about. Yes, I could change my password after the fact but the whole premise of sharing passwords is very bad business in my opinion.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hello ________,
Hope you are doing well and thank you for your email.
Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.
I have submitted this request to our Operations team but unfortunately, it was rejected. At this time, this work-around of providing a void cheque to link an external bank account is no longer acceptable. We also do not accept cheque deposits into the USD account. For now, the only way you can deposit funds into your EQ Bank USD account is by first linking your RBC USD account online. I understand your concern about this current method but rest assured, EQ Bank does not see and capture your RBC login credentials.
Personally, I have successfully linked my own RBC USD account to my EQ Bank USD account with no issues. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience and frustration caused by this issue.
Thank you for your patience and kind understanding.
Should you have any other questions, please call us at 1-844-437-2265 or chat with us securely at https://www.eqbank.ca/contact-us . We are available every day from 8am until 12am EST.
Kind regards.

I finally was able to add a link to an RBC bank account late last night. I was using the Android mobile app on an older Android 8.1 tablet, so your mileage may vary.
I checked the EQ USD to CAD exchange rate against Knightsbridge just now. Surprisingly, EQ came out on top with 1.2368 vs 1.2101 for Knightsbridge for selling $5,000 USD. Instant conversion at EQ is also a bonus instead of waiting a week for Knightsbridge. For comparison, TD 1.1984, RBC 1.1816. Your rate with the big banks will vary depending on how much you hold with them and the amount you are transferring. I have a large amount at TD and almost none at RBC.

Please confirm: were you able to link a CIBC USD account to an EQ Bank USD account? I need to transfer some USD to an EQ Bank USD account and I was hoping to use CIBC because I have other accounts there. But a CIBC phone banking rep told me it's not possible. I wonder if he was wrong, because the link between $CAD accounts worked instantly.
Thanks

This message when I was about to transfer between a linked USD account to the EQ Bank USD account:"Just so you know...
USD currency transfers can only be made once and instantly."Only one USD currency transfer allowed?!?
Hi. I asked and for USD accounts "can only be made once" means you can't set up recurring transfers "and instantly" means you can't set up future transfers.

Unless prompted otherwise it's always the case that a gic purchase defaults to the name of whoever's logged in and placing the order, irrelevant whether funds coming from joint or non-joint account. EQ's the same, just doesn't have the prompt/option re joint gic.
P.S. A number of places have short term, e.g. 30 days, 60 days, 6-month, etc gics, is there any way the GIC chart can show this info, at least where there's promo rates like EQ has right now or where the rate is higher than their HISA rate such that people might look at locking up their HISA money there for a month or three?
