I haven’t received an email but I have had an ongoing problem, since Thursday last week, when trying to send an etransfer. After I’ve completed all the necessary, I get a message saying EQ is having technical issues and to try again. When I try again I’m asked to change my etransfer security question, but I can’t find how to do that (neither could the FI rep. yesterday). Three work orders have been issued to try to correct this problem but I haven’t heard a word. I wonder if it’s connected in any way to the email that you received.

So far, I've received to such email from EQ. Maybe I'm next on their list.
Perhaps they're sending out those emails to customers who have Never changed their passwords, or have not done so in a Long time. I used to be lazy about that too ... but no longer ❗
Seeing what has happened to other people, I now change & enhance my passwords every 2 to 3 months. For most of them I'm now up to 14 characters, and I now incorporate all six types (A, b, ?, 5, +, and @).
We just can't be too safe, these days.

Are those who are receiving this email by any chance using the FLINKS system to link their external accounts to EQ for fund transfers?(FLINKS is where you provide your external bank account's username and password to a third party service which EQ has a contract with.)
Yes, I have used it recently.

.
Three days have passed, and I still haven't received that 'Change Your Password' email from EQ. And I'm one of several here who have used the FLINKS System on the EQ site recently.
Maybe my guess in Post #6 (second paragraph) ⬆ is correct.
Go figure,

I've not changed my password in some time (though I use a password manager) so it is not clear what is prompting EQ to do that.
One explanation may be that any organization with any IT Security savvy would be contracting with a service that would be monitoring passwords being marketed/sold on the dark web and passing that data on to their clients, e.g. EQ. Any password match with a customer's account would/should be enough for EQ to trigger a password change request even if that 'marketed' password had nothing to do with that specific customer at the moment.
