1. Hubert cannot accept or send E-transfers. All funds transfers are done on the Hubert side by pulling or sending to your linked accounts. You can link up to 30 accounts at Hubert vs 10 at EQ.

2. Hubert does not have a bill pay function.

3. Hubert allows unlimited withdrawals via EFT.

4. Hubert has better customer service, better rates, and a USD account with good rates and you can link USD external accounts.

5. EQ has a better website when it works....it goes down alot check http://www.eqbankstatus.ca LOL

It depends on your purpose. EQ is better set up for day-to-day banking, and their statements are monthly and straightforward.
I much prefer the attitude at Hubert though.

EQ meet the requirements for me. Hubert has better interest rate. I will keep both. I am still waiting for Hubert to contact me regards to my application. Hopefully Monday! I already have account with EQ.

Good idea. Once you're set up with them, it will be easier (and faster) for you to take advantage of any upcoming deals.

I wouldn't open accounts with too many places in a short time though as it will affect your credit rating. You probably have enough for now.

Thanks for the heads up Loonie. I did not know that opening new account could affect credit rating. I was under the impression it only affects you when you borrow money. Well so far I have savings account with EQ and Meridian and waiting for Hubert to get back to me regarding my online application.

It depends on the financial institutions. Each hard check for creditworthiness could affect credit score. Each soft check for verifying identity definitely won't affect credit score.

Some financial institutions will do a hard check, even when one is just opening a deposit account.

However, more recent FICO credit scoring models will ignore large number of hard checks within a short period of time. After all, the borrower may be rate shopping at seven different lenders for their mortgage in a 14 day period and not furiously searching for another loan to pay their existing loans.

I agree with Loonie that the customer service is good at Hubert, especially after implementing the fairly recent new online live chat feature; but their email turn-around-time replies are pretty quick too. I don't have an account with EQ, so I can't speak about them.

Also, when I opened an account with Hubert, I had opened one around the same time that I opened an account with Achieva, and only Achieva did a hard check, but Hubert did not, so I think you'll be okay with Hubert.

EQ Bank interac transfers do not work for me. After successfully sending few initially, every time I try sending new one it gives me an error "Max retry Breached(106)."

It is not monthly limit reached. I haven't been using interac at EQ for over 6 mo, tried again just now and got same error.

I since then switched to Simplii for interac transfers, so EQ error message didn't bother me enough to escalate to EQ support.

Yet, if you plan to use EQ account for interac, be warned.
