Interesting, wealth simple announced a new bank account with savings at 2.4% - seems like there is some welcome competition going on!

FYI, Tangerine's base rate is 1.05%, not 2.75.

I hear you. You need to negotiate for better rate.

That’s great, it feels like EQ has been 2.3% for ever.

The EQ rate is a direct response to WealthSimple's new 2.4% account. I am pleased as well but surprised given yesterday's dovish stance by Carney AND the collapse of the bond yield curve (5 and 10 year now about 1.45%). I am guessing all rates could be down somewhat before the end of the summer.

Not sure if there is an account balance limit at Wealthsimple but remember EQ has an account balance limit of $200K which is not overly high. Motive's savvy saving account balance limit is $1M at least for the 2.8% rate.

This is amazing. I just got the email too. Love EQ!
For those comparing EQ with others with higher special rates, I don't think it is the good way of comparing a permenant rate with temporary ones.

Yup ... I don't pay much attention to those short-term 'bait' rates either.

But some here do. LOL sf-laugh

If they smarten up and raise 1-yr GIC to 3%, I will stay locking in. Otherwise, I am all set to migrate to Peoples Trust on maturity.
Keep in mind that December inflation rate got pegged at 2.2% citing rise in food and gasoline prices (long live carbon tax!). Your after tax interest payout is not enough to maintain the value of your investment, let alone register any gain.

Would be a lot more useful FI if they had Joint accounts & TFSAs.

I have an account at EQ with a zero balance. I'm keeping it open waiting for joint accounts. I don't have much hope for that, since they have promised that for 3 years.
