I find the reference to joint accounts confusing and am not sure what it means:

"For the purposes of this Program, a person who signs up for an EQ Bank Savings Plus Account via a link to join a joint account will not be considered a 'New Client'."

I suspect this is referring to an external joint account. In other words, if A and B have a joint account at CIBC, and A joins EQ, then B will not get the promotion if B then joins EQ. But maybe I'm overthinking it.
What do others think?

It looks like a reference to a joint account at EQ Bank.

The text seems to be about opening a savings account through a referral link. That's in contrast to onboarding via a link generated to join (become one of the owners of) a joint account:

a. A Referral Bonus will be paid for referrals that result in a New Client. A “New Client” means a Referee who:

i. successfully opens an EQ Bank Savings Plus Account, using a valid Referral Link; and
ii. funds their account (minimum $100) within 30 calendar days of account activation.

For clarity, a New Client does not include any person who had an EQ Bank Savings Plus Account prior to the referral. For the purposes of this Program, a person who signs up for an EQ Bank Savings Plus Account via a link to join a joint account will not be considered a “New Client”.

I've had an EQ account since day one and just out of curiosity, I tried to get a referral code. It doesn't seem to work and just puts me back to a signon screen. Taking a look at the terms and conditions I see the following: "The Program is available to current EQ Bank customers who receive an offer from EQ Bank to participate in the Program (each a “Referrer”). This offer may be communicated via Online or Mobile Banking, or other forms of electronic communication undertaken by us from time to time. "

Not sure if I ever got such an invitation in the past. I may have received one but if I did I can't remember. For those who are qualified "referrers" do you recall getting the message? How did you receive it? Do you remember what it entailed? Just wondering. Thanks in advance.
