I signed up on line prior to January 23rd and mailed my cheque for $1. I am still waiting for my cheque to be cashed and my account to be activated. On February 8th, I decided to call and see if it was possible to link my EQ account to a second external account while waiting for my cheque to be cashed. I was told that I just had to mail my cheque in and that I didn't have to call. I pointed out that this totally contradicts their website but I mailed my cheque for $1, requesting that they link my EQ account to this 2nd external account. So far, neither cheque has been cashed. I am so glad that I left my funds at ZAG. Will this bank ever get their act together?
Today, I received an email saying that my cheque had been processed and my account will be activated in 5 business days. If things go according to schedule, it will have taken exactly 6 weeks since the day I mailed my cheque to the day my account was activated. What a painful experience.

It's been a real chore but my EQ account is open. I have had problems with the app similar to other posts. I'm new to the Internet banks so have a general guestion, are there any fees associated with a transfer into my EQ account from my linked account at TD? Looks like none from the EQ side but not sure about my TD account.

It will depend on the specific terms of the particular account that you have at TD. It would count as a Withdrawal on the TD ledger, so, if you are restricted to X Withdrawals (or cheques, if you are using cheques) per month etc., then you would need to take that into account.
But there is no particular fee for an EFT transfer per se.

Thanks, shouldn't be any cost then as my TD chequing account has unlimited withdrawals.
My first experience wth the app. I tried to deposit a cheque and the app misread the amount so I did not confirm the deposit. I tried again with the same cheque and the app then advised that this cheque has already been processed. I tried calling and gave up and sent an email asking how I find out the status of the cheque and intended deposit? The cheque was made out for a significantly different amount. Seems like a common experience.
Should have gone EFT route last night!!!

I had the same experience. Just touch in the area where the amount is shown and edit it to show the correct amount. Then you can submit it. Its not obvious but that is what I had to do every time I submitted a cheque.

I had same experience. Cheque did not go through, but had to wait it out because I couldn't talk to anyone at Eq , just kept checking my account every day to see if it cleared. I was very frustrated , but now I just use the electronic transfer and it's working fine.
Thank goodness we are getting 3 percent for all the aggravation.
I must say Tangerines photo cheque system is flawless, upstart banks should take note of it

My question now is how do I know the status of the misread cheque. Because I assume I didn't confirm the amount and I went back to another part of the app can I assume it will not be processed?
Once your account has been set up depositing a photographed cheque is like an EFT. If the cheque is accepted the transaction should immediately show up in your account. If that is your situation, I would try depositing it again the next day.
When I deposited my first cheque to have my account opened I got the same response as you did after something seemed to go wrong and I tried to re-deposit it. So I deposited another cheque (different one) and got a different response which indicated the deposit was successful. After waiting I saw the second cheque come out of my external account but the first one never did. I deposited the first cheque again after my account had been set up and this time I got the correct response and the transaction showed up immediately. Maybe there is a timeout on cheques which aren't fully submitted? In which case waiting for the timeout time to pass (whatever that is) allows you to re-deposit it?

If you are planning to use EQ Bank's online application you will need two things:
1) A financial institution to link the new account to - namely transit, institution, and account number, and here's the GOTCHA they don't tell you about ... until after the fact ... and only as you email ping pong back and forth discovering what The Rules are:
2) a PDF document that has the EXACT name used in the application which MUST appear in the same block as your address and it can NOT be a statement from the account to which you link.
I applied as Fred Flintstone. Because I didn't know, I submitted a statement from the linked account AND it was in the name T Fred Flintstone. That got me a nope (can't be same account) and nope (names don't match) from EQ.
I sent them a note with my full legal name Tiberius Fred Flintstone and a copy of my TELUS bill with that name emblazed in glory across the top of the bill. TELUS abbreviated my name in the mailing address to T F Flintstone. Because the name -in the address block- did not match my full legal name that got me another nope (names don't match) from EQ. In fact, it was suggested I call TELUS (nee AGT nee Alberta Government Telephones) and get them to change the billing address. The miraculous I do immediately, the impossible takes longer.
A Canada Revenue Agency document is acceptable. It's too bad the CRA abbreviates my name to Tiberius F Flintstone. So much for the full-legal-name trick.
I do not have ANY documents with a simple Fred Flintstone even paper ones (remember the no scans rule) I felt like a rat trapped in a maze. Every time I turned a corner I found another dead end.
I used the online 1-800 number and after reviewing (a lengthy) email trail the person I talked to was able to change the name I used in the online application to the same as was used in another financial institution's PDF statement - Tiberius Flintstone.
TL;DR if using EQ Bank's online application use a name and address EXACTLY as it appears on what you use as ID. Do not send them a statement from the account you want to link to. There's a new circle of hell (email variant) if you do not follow their rules.
