Google is hungry for our data, who knows what the heck they are really doing with it? This article and video dives into one aspect the company wished to have hidden. What else are they doing? Your guess is as good as mine.
Another example of companies weaponizing our data against us.
Basically, google gets the data that we purchased something after clicking an ad for it previously. Who knows if that is it or not.
Google than tailor’s ads more effectively against you personally in some instances. In others, I’m sure they get more revenue if they can show this to the merchant.
In a broader sense, they are investigating how best to advertise to us:
"In the partnership, Google tracks whether your offline buying habits are influenced by online ads."
It's a violation of our privacy and trust to me.
You can turn off tracking but in reality, you are still tracked in most cases unless you turn off another tracking setting "hidden deep" in the settings.
They want to still track you even if you don’t want to be....
Only after being caught did they release statements about this. Or inform users.
This shady behaviour makes me not trust their statements of protection of data.
"Google is also exploring other ways to link the two worlds, such as using Bluetooth devices to track when shoppers enter stores."
A sad day for consumer privacy.
