I registered for the preview. Today I received an email from Tangerine asking for more patience. Has anybody received card already? Thanks!

I already did, for a few weeks actually sf-wink
Surprisingly, I get approve for 10000 dollars despite I am just a student, most likely because I take all my saving out and take benefit of the 3% bonus interest, which is quite a handsome sumsf-surprised. The interface is fully integrated into their system and I can actually pay directly from saving or chequeing account just like transferring money between account under the "move my money" section (it appears that cash adveance can also be done this way, although only to other Tangerine account), but I can't pay my bill else where yet. When you click into the "View my account" tab, you can see your credit card under "spending" category and you can click on it, just like other account. In the CC page, you can easily change the reward category and where to deposit the reward under "manage reward" section (remember, you can only get two bonus categories if reward is deposited back to the card) while you can also pause you if you lost it (quite useful and innovative!) along with changing card PIN and add travel notice and the usual thing of seeing transaction and pending transaction. I do have concern about changing PIN because it use the CVV code of the card (code that are use in online shopping) in which the CVV cannot be change. Although you can argue it maybe safer because is quite difficult to lost your card or get your card duplicated and compromise your online banking password at the same time while criminals generally figure out your PIN when they duplicate your card and make any form of "PIN change on ABM base on old PIN" vulnerable. (Criminals change your card PIN for their own benefit !)

In terms of appearances, the arrow section is transparent while there is also a transparent ring around MasterCard logo. However, the most interesting things come from the back as the magnetic strip have MasterCard hologram which show either their logo or the word "MasterCard" on it while the back of the chip is transparent and expose the inside of the chip.

Chip and PIN cards, like the Tangerine MasterCard, are not easy to duplicate. The magnetic strip information is easy to duplicate. But, that would only be useful in a country, like the US, that hasn't switched over to chip-and-PIN cards. The information on the chip is not so easy to duplicate.

I don't think a Canadian ATM will accept a Canadian debit or Canadian credit card without a working chip. I think Tangerine would be very suspicious if someone tried to change the PIN using a card that doesn't have a chip with the correct secret key.

Ahh the chip and pin fiasco.. Yes Canadian atms \ any atm really should accept non chip\pin cards.. even most POS readers still do after some trickery.. It's to shift liability to the consumer again and I don't like them! I refuse to upgrade my non chip cards to chip cards..

Eventually I'm sure I'll be forced but only when it's the standard worldwide which is doubtful!..

Non-chip cards are still accepted by ATM's and POS terminals if they are from the US.

I think the US financial institutions are the only ones left that don't use the chip cards widely. That's starting to change.

The chip cards are a worldwide standard. They are formally called EMV cards.

Signed up for Preview January 10. Anybody experience how long to receive approval and what the process is until card received? I have heard nothing.

The following is my experience (yours could be different):
1 month to receive an email asking for patience. 1 more month to receive pre-approval email. (Then you can do online application.) 1 more month to receive the actual card.

I went through the patience routine as well and would estimate approximately 1 month from acceptance to receipt of card - I have had it for close to a month now, no issues or problems - front screen shows posted charges, pending charges and accumulating rewards. Rewards are posted in total monthly as cash into whatever account you select - like most Tangerine products, everything is slick up to date and easy to follow

I have tangerine Master Cart for about 2 months now. I am using it for everything and is better than my old Platinum Travel visa where I could redeem my points toward travel-related expenses only at the “good exchange” rate. My categories are groceries, home improvement, and gasoline which are most of my expenses. Even 1% category is still better nothing with direct payment or I use my old Travel TD platinum Travel visa if it is travel related. So far it is excellent and without any special high expenses I got over $52 in cash back. I got myself not a bad whiskey and it was free to me…:-)sf-smile

As a pre-step to even consider registering for the preview, I am wondering about the merchant category codes (MCC) mentioned in the Credit Card Cardholder Agreement. Would it be Tangerine CS or MasterCard CS to contact to determine if my merchant currently belongs to, or qualifies for, a particular MCC?

There have been other threads where the MCCs have been discussed at length and some links have been given which provide lists. These may be helpful to you.
It appears that Mastercard controls the designation.

You could also just name the merchant here and see if anyone has any experience that would give you the answer.

Thanks for this Loonie. I took the time to browse through the lists and links provided in other threads and they appear to show "popular" brands in each of the respective categories. I'm geographically isolated from those particular brands and merchants, and such, am very limited to the number of merchants I can do in-store transactions (two, in fact (Arctic Co-op Ltd., and Northwest Company)). Both stores currently accept MasterCard, which leads be to believe, that as MasterCard merchants, the merchant codes have been designated and/or agreed upon between the merchant and institution. I can always give MasterCard a call-back, and the first two CS agents where at a loss to my inquires.
