Hello, I am a bit confused about eligibility for Amex Credit Card.

I just applied for Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card. They are offering 30000 Scotia Rewards bonus points. The condition is as below:

** The bonus points offer applies to new accounts opened by July 31, 2017. To qualify for the welcome bonus you must have at least $750 in net purchases (purchases less returns) posted to your account in the first 3 months from the account open date. .... **

However, I was also thinking of applying for "American Express® Gold Rewards Card" to get the bonus which is 25000 points. This is basically a round trip long haul flight within Canada/US. However, their condition is as below:

This offer is only available to new American Express® Gold Rewards Cardmembers. For current or former American Express® Gold Rewards Cardmembers, we may approve your application, but you will not be eligible for the welcome bonus. ...

Does this mean, any Gold card issued by any bank or only if it is issued directly by American Express? And Scotia Bank doesn't have the same restriction. Does it mean, if I apply for American Express directly and if it gets approved first, I can get both the points?

Maybe I will just try and see what happens. Worst case, I'll just cancel one. Poor Credit Score 🙁

I have applied for and used the Amex Gold card three times now over the past few years, and each time I have received the bonus 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised if they have cottoned on and stopped it by now.

Cheers.

So I got a call from Amex today and they approved the Gold one. Still waiting for Scotia Bank.

You'll get the welcome bonus for both cards as they are viewed as separate products. Your Amex gold will come within a week via FedEx while it will take 3 weeks to get your Scotia gold card. I recently got the Scotia gold card myself...hard to turn down $300 of free cash.

Great to know. Yes, Amex called me the 2nd day and approved. However, no news from Scotia Bank and I can't find anyway online to check the status of the application. I uploaded the document they requested 2 days ago and re-uploaded again just to give the processing a boost! And yes, 30000 points is a big deal. I also subscribed using referral from https://www.ratehub.ca/special-offers which gives an extra $75 Amazon Gift Card. Let's see if they will actually give that gift card upon application approval.

I always check ratehub and greedyrates websites for bonus promotions before applying for a credit card. I've received 4 gift cards (8 if you include my spouse) via email from ratehub so far and only one required follow up because not received in a timely manner. It was ultimately sent after a few back and forth emails.

Good point. I used to get bonuses too but from different resources. This $75 looks good if I get it which I should from your experience.
