Thanks to Norman, pwr1019, William and savemoresaveoften for additional info.
I would assume, for the basic card, 0.5%, and for the WE card, 1%, until it changes, which could be soon!
I think it might actually be worth getting the card, as these are annual savings that add up, not a one-off for opening a new account etc.
But it may not be worth it to me personally as I am allergic to the idea of having to pay monthly bills proactively! I'm at the age where sh*t happens, so I prefer things to run along without my active involvement. With the way I have things arranged right now, we could both be comatose and the bills would still get paid automatically. It would take a bigger carrot to entice me to change.

Just added my bills (Ottawa): Taxes, Hydro and Gas are listed but not Water and Sewer ! I'm wondering why ?
Hi lhsaid,
Good to know you are making progress with paying your utility bills with CT CC.
For Ottawa Water and Sewer go to Manage Payees and see if
"OTT WTR & SEWER"
is the one you need. I have found it useful when trying to find a list of payees to only use the first two characters in the search and an extensive list will appear. E.G. I typed in "OT" to find the entry described above from the long list provided.
Hope this works for you.

[Another update on progress to establish Utility and Property Tax bill payer accounts with Triangle Mastercard]
As previously reported I have set up 3 bill payer accounts with Triangle Credit:
- Hydro One
- Enbridge
- 'MyCity'-Tax
It turns out the Enbridge bill payer listing does not work for me. We are now set up with Union Gas as the payee. My $1 test payment showed up there this morning.
The two $1 test payments I made to Enbridge will have to be chalked up to a learning experience.
Hydro One and 'MyCity'-Tax test payments showed up promptly. Might have even attracted a new forum member from our fair city's city hall. If you found us M******, 'Welcome to the Forum!'
It was no problem to get the PAD arrangements cancelled for these accounts.
In addition to the utilities described above we use our Rogers CC to pay for:
- House and Auto Insurance
- Rogers Phone & Internet
- Shaw Direct Satellite TV
Only thing missing for us now is Water & Sewage Bill which is handled by a 3rd party and there is no listing for them at CTFI. It is a low cost utility so we will not dwell on that.
Thanks to all who posted here to prompt me to get busy and get this done.

I thought paying utilities by credit card involves some extra charge????
Just looked at Enbridge and it says CC invokes 1.75% service charge?
Am I missing something?
Normally, yes, when the utility charges (pulls from) a credit card like a store merchant does. The special Triangle MasterCard bill payments are different.
Canadian Tire Bank sends (pushes) the payment to the biller and then charges the payment against a Triangle MasterCard account.
The biller receives the payment with no credit card processing fee deducted. In fact, to the biller, the payment looks like a bill payment done (pushed) from a bank account, like from a Simplii chequing account or from an EQ Bank savings account.

Someone asked interesting question here:

Can payment be done to pay taxes to CRA?
From what I can gather, I am not able to track down an entry for that... only municipal taxes.

Thanks! Finally I can add Toronto water bill as payee now. I assumed the 20 digit payee account no required is 9 digit account number and 11 digit client No.
William said
Yes I confirm, that's how I just paid my bill today, set it once as a payee and it will remain in the system.
Just to be sure, is that the 9 digit acct # first + the 11 digit client # second for TOR UTL BILL (Toronto Water and Waste) "acct #"?

I tried many times to today to pay a Hydro-Ottawa bill for the first time I keep getting the attached error. Though the addition of the payee was successful. Will talk to the them on Monday.
Got the answer from CT Mastercard. The way they check if the account is over the limit does not make any sense to me ! they count the pending amounts twice ! Because I already have some pending transactions, these amounts doubled exceed my credit limit ! I have to wait for some to clear to pay my hydro bill.
Has anyone ever seen this ?

Union Gas payments now failing !! Anyone know why ?
Union Gas is now Enbridge. You will now have a different account number. I only discovered it when I went to submit my last meter reading that the page for that purpose on the Union Gas website doesn't exist any longer. I had to set up Enbridge as a new payee with my new account number on CT's site and was able to pay my bill. I then deleted Union Gas as a payee.
Here's the link to Enbridge's website where you can find out what to do.

I received a promo email from CTB in which I could select one category for 3% Triangle rewards till the end of July. I chose utilities and paid over $1000 in utility bills, but still only received the standard 1% reward. I complained directly to CTB (Triangle), and the CSR said he never heard of that, but he would "look into it".

Can you 'pre-/over-pay' a utility and get a credit balance to take extra advantage of the offer?
YES! I do it all the time... I create my own equal billing plan and pre-schedule equal payments for my gas and hydro bills (2 properties, 4 bills).
The key to making it work is to calculate the monthly average then figure out the month which falls below that average and stays below for many months. That month is the month you need to review and adjust your equal billing every year. This way you build up a credit that then gets used up by later bills in the yearly cycle that exceed the average.
Then just set a reminder on your calendar to review your equal billing payments.

After a few month using ctfs.ca to schedule pay my property tax, hydro, gas, water bill, I want to praise ctfs.ca the recent updates of website especially for Triangle Card, I can see the streamlined payment process by day after 9am, how to change from schedule, pending (Bill Pay/Transfer),and a few second later, My Enbridge Payment Receipt notification ding.
Well done for CTFS and Thanks for Rewards
