I received my Canadian Tire world elite yesterday.
Road Side Assistance activiation is done online but then you have to call in 2 - 3 days to follow up and make sure it gets processed. The online system says it takes 3 weeks and if nothing is received after 3 weeks to call them. Doesn't make sense. But it is a GOLD membership which is way better than the basic CAA membership. Can't beat the 250 km towing for free.

Their customer service seems very unprofessional and unfriendly. I have called them 4 - 5 times and experienced not a professional customer service at all. Kind of reminds me of the pre-internet era.

Anyway, now I don't think I will ever use my MBNA card anymore except when shopping in Walmart (No Costco for me).
GAS - Canadian Tire (It is usually 1 cent higher here but I get the 5 cent back). That's 4%.
Grocery - Canadian Tire = 3c = 3%
I can then use the points to buy GAS+ gift card and use it to pay gas.
Everything else - Rogers = 1.75%
Forgeign Transactions = 3 - 2.5 = 0.5%

MBNA = ? Not sure! Why would I use it. 2% Grocery / Gas. 1% everthing else.

It is my oldest CC and I am itching to cancel it! I have the bad habit of canceling old and useless CCs. sf-laugh

PS. I get CCs with annual fee only when I can get lots of points or $$ as bonus. Example Scotia Bank Gold Amex. Got $300 and waived first year fee. Cancelled before end of the year. And Gold Amex (From Amex itself). 30K Aeroplan which I am going to use to travel to Nunavut. (Tax only ticket vs a $1750). Deciding on where to fly with the other 15K (Maybe Winnipeg to Churchill - Polar Bear tour!)
Need to use the points for expensive destinations 🙂 This card is cancelled too.

I didn't know you could get 3% on groceries with CT card. That's pretty good!

But don't you have to spend it at CTire? (Their gas is not convenient for me and usually more expensive than the places I go.) Also, I find their store products generally overpriced - but I won't say I never go there. I sometimes buy CT gift cards when they are on sale somewhere or have a good return in AirMiles or whatever for buying them - usually runs about 10%, so seems like a good deal to me.

I know what you mean about the CSRs. They were extremely nasty to my very elderly mother after her husband died. To listen to them rant on, you'd think she'd robbed the bank! She was very upset, and it was hard to calm her down. They also gave us a lot of contradictory information when we intervened.
I've never had their credit cards but didn't want to after that episode. I just don't buy stuff there often enough to make it worthwhile.

For me, the main reason I wanted the card was the road side assistance. The other stuff are just side benefits to me.

I buy there 2 to 3 times a year usually when things are 70% to 90% on sale. But even if you never use the card, having that free road side is a great deal.
