While that change makes it more competitive, I still don't see it as a great option.

I agree. It is misnamed, thus deceptive, as it is called “Cash Back”. And if you look at the rewards, they should call it “.01% + $495”.

The points amount to 2% on travel and gas and in foreign currencies and 1% on everything else. You do get 4 lounge passes and great travel insurance, but I instead recently applied and was accepted for the Scotia Passport Visa Infinite for free since I have a Scotiabank Ultimate Package chequing account. It pays 2% on eligible grocery stores, dining, entertainment purchases, and daily transit purchases (including buses, subways, taxis and more) and has no fx fees. I combine that with the Tangerine credit card with 2% for gas, CT Triangle for shopping at their store and paying bills and roadside assistance, PC Mastercard for shopping at their stores and Esso.

I think the Meridian Visa Infinite CC is better than the Hubert if you want a credit union CC, albeit without lounge passes but with:
4% cash back on gas and grocery store purchases
2% pharmacy purchases and utility bill payments
1% cash back on all other eligible purchases
(Although I've heard redeeming cash back is a pain with Meridian)
