The roadside assistance is an added bonus.

Post #72, above, doesn't seem enthralled with that Home Trust Visa feature and is looking elsewhere!

The roadside assistance with the Home Trust Preferred Visa is so-so.

The up-to-5-km of towing sounds like a joke! Surprisingly, it is not far off from a $70/year CAA Manitoba Classic membership with up to just 10 km of towing. sf-surprised For up to 200 km of towing, it is $114/year for a CAA Manitoba Plus membership.

There is no flag on my credit reports at Equifax and Transunion. Thanks all for your views and experience with this credit card. I'm giving up on Home Trust. The feature that I'm interested in is the roadside assistance so I'm going to take a look at TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card which has Deluxe TD Auto Club. Home Trust 's roadside assistance is limited to 5 km and over that it's charged per km and who knows how much a tow truck will charge in a distressing situation when it's easy to gouge.

You most likely will be gouged on any plan. Most shops offer tow truck drivers a spiff if they bring a vehicle in. And how convenient is it that the repair shop bills you for the repair and the tow plus the spiff given to the tow truck driver. And keep in mind this is happening with with CAA too. Can you imagine a tow across town for a new battery??? It happens!

Wow! sf-surprised I just got an email saying I am approved for a Home Trust Visa that I applied for on April 4th and it's in the mail. This is much faster than I expected given some other people's experiences on this thread. I might actually get it before my trip to Britain on the 15th.

That's good to hear!

Looks like Home Trust is getting through the surge of Home Trust Preferred Visa applications from Chase Canada closing the Amazon.ca Rewards Visa.

For those that got approved, did you notice a drop in your credit score? Mine went down 7 points, I’m curious how much it affected others.

Mine went down 4 points the month I received it, went back up 4 points the following month, and up 3 more points this month. What credit limit did they give you?

A slight detour, but for those of you who monitor your credit scores, would you please tell me the procedure you use?

CIBC offers a free credit score service through their mobile app (they're tied into Equifax) - I haven't used it because I really don't care about my credit score BUT it's there for CIBC clients.

Many, including myself, uses free services like borrowell to get their scores, and as of recent they’ve now also added the addition of credit report to it as well and again all free. They also tie into Equifax.

$3k limit. You?

Do they mail you statements? I’d like to switch to electronic statements but I haven’t looked into it yet. Do you know if that’s possible? I have added Home Trust as a payee to my online banking to pay them back but I haven’t received my first statement yet.

Yeah, CIBC also goes through Borrowell to get to Equifax.

The Government of Canada provides this information on their website on how to obtain one's credit report free of charge.

7K. They mail the statements but you can get an e-version on the website.

I use the MOGO app on my phone, but recently used the new service Scotia offers with their card.

One thing I recently noticed with the card is the alerts. You don't get them until they actually post the transaction to your account, which can be days after the actual transaction. Kind of closing the barn door thing. If there was any fraudulent activity, you wouldn't notice it until is was posted. Tangerine M/C alerts happen so fast I'm often still standing at the register putting my card back in my wallet. Literally. Just another little idiosyncrasy about the card. Still happy with it as a replacement for my Amazon though.

I once upon a time had an RBC mastercard (couple years ago). I can still access my account which has the option to check the credit score once a month for free.

Scotiabank recently added the same too. I closed my Gold Amex yesterday but can still access my account and check the score (Although it is the same as RBC info).

CIBC offers it too (but I don't have a CIBC account).

Has anyone noticed that when using one service (ie, Borrowell for me) I get one score (850) and I just found out yesterday RBC also has a credit score check on their online banking site and when I used it, it showed a score of 820.

That's a big jump. So, I went back into Borrowell it still shows my 850 score, so I doin't understand why the discrepancy. The only thing I know is that Borrowell uses Equifax as their source and RBC uses Transunion, but shouldn't they be the same score? or at least very similar?

Transunion shows me at 863 and Equifax shows 820. I just assumed that when a credit check is done, it uses one or the other service. Would expect a large crossover of information and inquiries, but not exact.
