Hello, I'm wondering if someone could help me here. I realized that I have not been receiving my Amex cash rebate the last couple of years. I don't know what happened. I moved in 2012 and I continued receiving my mail in my new adddress. The thing is that Amex says that the rebate expired in July each year and there is nothing they can do. I believe that the rebate was never sent to me. However, I have received my Costco cash rebate every year in July. Any ideas?

The two rebates are issued by different companies.

The Costco cash rebate from their Executive Membership is given directly by Costco. The cashback from the Costco AMEX card is from AMEX and is a share of the credit card commissions AMEX charges its merchants.

It is quite possible for something to get mixed up at AMEX (like outdated mailing address) and still receive the Executive Membership rebate from Costco, who may have one's latest mailing address.

Was the cashback voucher that AMEX mailed cashed? Someone may have swiped it and used it at Costco.

Hello and thanks for your answer. The agent I talked to at AMEX told me they couldn't tell me if the voucher was cashed or not and suggested I call Costco. I did and the Costco agent told me it would too time consuming to go and see each transaction to find out if the voucher was cashed. I still don't understand how come AMEX doesn't keep a record of which vouchers have been cashed. They say they don't know. Do you think there is any hope? AMEX told me that since the vouchers expire in July there is no way of cashing them even if I find them now.

I assume you have still been getting your AMEX statements in the mail? If so they should have included your rebate cheque with your January statement (attached to the last page I believe) in all years except for 2014. I received a separate letter from them around Oct.16 explaining the transition from the Costco card to their new SimplyCash card. The letter included my last rebate cheque for 2014 up until Oct. 16, 2014. The transition date may be different for others but I don't know for sure.

Yes, I've getting the Costco rebates regularly every year in July but I haven't received the AMEX in January for the last two or three years. They told me that maybe I put them in the trash without knowing, but I don't recall doing so. I want to know if I can insist to have AMEX reissue those cheques for me. Itès my money after all... sf-cry

You probably already did this but if you keep your AMEX statements then the cheque should be attached to the January one.

I would imagine you are out of luck unless you are still an AMEX customer and they give you the rebate as a good will gesture. They are pretty good at telling their customers to spend the cheque before July. So if you call a supervisor and ask for their help (suck up to them) you might prevail.

Good Luck.
