Cash Back AMEX pays 1.25%, so I use it anywhere its accepted where my other cards only pay 1% cash back. A pretty minuscule advantage I know, but its a matter of principle. sf-wink

I discovered the Rogers MC here and applied for it. Very lucrative at 3%. Most pay back I have ever had. I charge everything, other than my hair cut.

Amex has really improved being accepted by more retailers.

Norman1: It appears that Rakuten is still in the Scene+ ownership mix, and I'd guess that means they will still be feeding the Rakuten marketing database. Which is terrifyingly large and increasingly universal.

They could be a partner of the Scene+ program, but their owner is not a shareholder in the SCENE IP L.P. between Scotiabank, Cineplex, and Sobeys.

Absolutely. For that reason, I will usually default to the American Express Canada if I'm not 100% sure how a transaction will be categorized, so they tend to get my larger ticket purchases (i.e., on travel trips).

My Scene+ Visa card will get my Cloudflare purchases (to keep it active) and any Sobeys- and Cineplex-store purchases, should there be any, or where a merchant doesn't accept American Express (i.e., SFU Residences & Housing). American Express will get basically everything else, including groceries. Tangerine World MasterCard may get some recurring bill payments and occasional very obvious restaurant purchases. 🙂

Yes the retailer category number. I have not delved nor do I intend to.

Just wondering as Rogers MC is offered double the cash back on gasoline till the end of the month. So does Costco gas fall under Gas or grocery????

Where are you getting 3% on a Rogers Bank card, other than for USD purchases?

Well...that was enlightening @Wrayzor. I just checked as per pic.

For some reason I thought I was making 3% on it all US and CDN. Boy...I was wrong. But I have collected some good amounts back. And like I say we do almost all purchases with the Rogers MC. And the 3% USA is bunk...if you consider that you have to pay 1.5% (more or less) on the foreign exchange fee leaving only 1.5% cash back.

Time to review all of my cards. And interestingly enough the statement has no indication of % of cash back.

I was hoping you'd found a loophole to get 3% on CAD purchases as well.

Yes, their statements are useless for tracking rewards, other than the actual cash back transaction.

Amex Simply Cash pays 2% on groceries and gas, 1.5% on everything else.

PEWTER: Odd - Simply Cash was promoted to me as the replacement for the ancient CostCo affinity card. I didn't have a CostCo membership, but was unhappy they'd replaced my old cash back card with a BlueSky one that was only good for travel, which I do almost none of.

But when they announced the Simply Cash, they were suddenly willing to give me the new cash-back card and it was a better deal than the old one.
