I finally called CIBC about my maturing GIC at the end of this month. They said they are offering the one yr GIC @ 5.75% only on renewal of the entire amount.
They said I can "accept" the offer to get the 5.75%, then up to 10 days (I think), after the renewal, I could request a partial redemption, and keep the rest at the 5.75%. I don't know....I need $25K of it just a few days later for some home repairs.
Can I trust them?

If I were in this situation, I would cash out the CIBC GIC, keep the funds needed for your repair bills, and then reinvest the balance in Oaken at 5.75%. That way, you get both the date you want and the certainty of access to the funds you need.

I suspect that ten days only applies to automatic renewals. Is the one-year 5.75% rate for an automatic renewal?
Hi Norman, yes. I have a fairly large non-registered GIC maturing on 31 Oct 23.
When I go to their on-line banking, I clicked on the "offers" button and the "limited time" offer is for a one year GIC on the maturing amount @5.7%. The automatic renewal "special offer", is to roll over the maturing 4 year GIC for the same time period and I think it is for 5.5%.
Also,....thanks Rail Baron. I pretty well have the max under CDIC with H.B & HT.
If I can get good GIC rates at my Bricks and Mortar banks of CIBC & RBC, Royal Trust, I try to jump in and leave some HISA room in other on-line banks such as Peoples, Oaken, Motive, Tangerine for cash deposits as rarely get anything from CIBC and RBC for those accounts.

Thanks for the heads up, davidgeorge, these 1-year big bank offerings top pretty much everything on the GIC chart here.
CIBC Investors Edge customers you are fortunate
Scotia itrade does not provide annual GIC options at the the same rates (see image)
But the main Scotiabank site does offer some good promotional? GIC rates

Hi Alexandra, I too have a CIBC savings account. You mention an "offers" button. Can tell me where this button is on the web portal. I'm hunting for it online in my account and I can't seem to find it.
I've had a CIBC savings account since the 80's (maybe late 70's, my first bank account) I've never received a targeted offer from CIBC, ever. This could explain why, I don't know where the "offers" button is.
I once went to the branch to provide me with one of those offers. I jumped up and down and pounded the table . It was futile. I was rejected and dejected.

Hi. When I go into my on-line banking account home page there are categories at the top: Banking/Investing/Imperial Service/Products/Offers
When I click on the "offers" button it says I have a GIC maturing and there is where I can select the 1 year @ 5.75%

TINA, look at the bright side, you weren't ejected.
Yes, I knew when it was time to leave while I still could. Incidentally, I was at the bank (CIBC) yesterday dealing with another cluster fudge when I here a ruckus at the other end of the bank. I couldn't make out what was his beef, but he was livid. I was there almost 2hrs when another skirmish broke out in the office next door. That guy stormed out shortly after. This branch is a good size, bigger than most. It was completely empty that whole time, well except for the disturbances. Part of my story is I called that branch and left a couple of messages since Oct. 6th without a response. I finally had to physically go to the bank since I haven't received a call back. I went to the first person I seen in an office and asked to see an account rep. He asked me if I had an appointment. I said no, but I would if somebody around here would answer the phone or return messages. Must be a very busy branch, so much for their 2 day reply policy.

The only categories I have up top is Banking, Investing, & Products. This explains why I can't find the button. But now the mystery is why I don't have an offers tab or button.
I'm not that bent out of shape on this matter since I have vastly broaden my investing options since the "pounding the table" days . I have a GIC maturing OCT. 17th that I will move into Investor's edge and take advantage of this offer mentioned in post 6 of this thread, assuming its still available at the time or I will move it to Tang for the 6% in savings until Jan31 special offer.

CIBC Investor's Edge offers good GIC rates (5.85% for 1 year).
Thanks davidgeorge for bringing this to my attention .
