Hi folks,
I have been using Ally as a conduit to quickly move money from my other internet banks (mostly Accelerate, Can Dir Financial, and Hubert) to TDCT Bank (Can & US accounts) as they have a quick turn around (generally 2 business days), a very easy to use online interface, and no fees regardless of the number of transactions per month. Also Ally had a great .65% rate on US Savings as well.
Now that Ally HISA will be gone (by April 30) can anyone recommend one of the internet banks that hooks into credit unions in Manitoba and BC, that could act as a replacement?

Actually Hubert is similar but better than Ally. Free transfer in/out can be initiated from Hubert site, a little higher interest (1.85%).
Small Plus: Transfer in can be done in the same day (they credit the amount even before taking from external bank). I don't use much as the interest is less than 2% though.

Had a quick look at Hubert (my wife has a small account there right now) and I see they have a US account paying .75% which is great as Ally was .65 and TD is about .2%. The issue I have is that they have no on-line xfer for US dollars. Any idea how long a over the phone xfer would take?
That's a big downside to Hubert Financial is no US-to-US transfers period. It's a limitation in their systems not being set up for outgoing USD EFTs from customer accounts as USD EFTs within Canada do exist. They might be able to issue you a USD bank draft by faxing in a signed request, I suspect, but that's pretty slow and would be at a cost (i.e., mailing cost and service charge for the USD bank draft).
On the plus side, Hubert does use the small "test deposit" account verification method. I have an e-mail in to Implicity Financial and have received a response but need to ask a follow-up before I share the information here.
Does ING Direct have a USD savings account? If so, I suspect they might allow US-to-US transfers.
Cheers,
Doug

Doug, thanks for your followup,
ING does have US accounts, but I need to confirm US-US xfers (don't know why they wouldn't as Ally has it and it is simply an account to account xfer in Ally). See:
http://www.ingdirect.ca/en/sav.....index.html
The US rates at Ally are .65% and at Hubert .75%, better than the .50% at ING, but on about $10 to 15k it won't make that much difference. I do have CDN accounts with them (with tiny balances to keep them open) which I haven't used for along time as their rates have been so low, but it might be the best option to move things around. It's been so long since I used them I can't recall how quickly the xfers go through. Have you xferred anything to/from them lately that you can comment on the time to xfer?

I transferred almost all of my US$ from Ally yesterday February 19 to my US$ ING Account and it got deposited just after 6am today February 20. I was surprised it took so fast (just 24 hours) because the last time I transferred my US$ from Ally to my US$ ING account was last year and it took 3 business days to get there.
