Also, Achieva's variable rate RRSP savings is 2% (not locked in) and there are no transfer out fees.

If anyone uses the 2% Achieva Savings acct, could you tell me:
1. can you do "me-to-me" internet transfers back to the originating account? I see they provide free cheques for withdrawals, which is not the usual.
2. if you can do "me-to-me" transfers, are they fee free?
3. are you satisfied dealing with Achieva?
Thanks

Hi Brian,
1. Yes, they offer "me-to-me" transfers. They call it "Achieva Direct Transfer". Need to send them a cheque from other account to get it set up.
2. The first withdrawal per month is free, regardless of method (ATM, cheque, Achieva Direct Transfer, etc). Each additional is $1. Deposits are free, including Achieva Direct Transfers.
3. I was happy with them until they called me last month about a couple of days after I transferred my remaining funds to Implicity. They threatened to close my account unless I transferred back at least $25.01 ... (yes, the .01 was important to them) within 2 weeks. I was flabbergasted so I called back and spoke with a "supervisor" and explained to her their website states they close accounts if dormant for 6 months. She changed her stance and agreed to give me 6 months. They clearly don't like me as a customer since I transfer my money to PC Financial & Tangerine for their bonuses or even to Implicity which was slightly higher interest at the time. However, I am an interest rate whore & will be using them on Dec 1 when Tangerine promo is done.

Just to add clerity, first withdrawal per month is free only for Cheque, Pre-Authorized Debit or Achieva Direct Transfer. NOT for Bill Payment and it seems not for ATM either.

By the way, I just found out that they added Mobile App and can deposit cheque with it. Cool !

I do not like its 10-day holding policy. I believe other financial institutions hold for 5 business days. Even I pushed the money from Tangerine to it, it held for 10 days.

Dennis - Thanks for clarifying fees. I forgot ATM withdrawals & bill payments have fees as I don't use those from this account. Thanks for pointing out the mobile app - that will be convenient to deposit cheques.

James - The hold policy annoys me a bit. I believe the banks are regulated differently and thus have shorter hold times. Implicity has a 10-day hold period but does not hold money that is pushed to it from another financial institution where Achieva does. Achieva even used to put a 10-day hold on our $100 UCCB payment from the Government of Canada where Implicity did not.
