How long have you banked with them?: Since 2007
Why do you bank with them?: Great customer service. You call and someone picks up the phone! Any banking I haven't been able to do online, I just call the 1-800 # and get through to someone very quickly who can help me.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Flexibility! This allowed us to pay off our mortgage 7 years sooner using their Manulife One. Now that we have just a checking account I can earn interest.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: This is a very "hands off" bank. So if you need someone to hold your hand and walk you through how to negotiate your debt rates and set up your accounts, this is not the account for you! It would be nicer that someone would reach out to you when interest rates were going up. but you have to take that into your own hands and be your own advocate.
General comments: All around great. If you just have the savings account, there are no fees! If you have the ManOne there is a small fee, but its less than the other big banks are charging. I love the all in one account, no one does it like Manulife when it comes to that account.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Everything
General comments: Disgusting customer service. Not one time did i call and got the impression i was talking to an intelligent human being. During my last consultation with a rep, i was given the go-ahead in regards to a compromised e-transfer confirmation email. The funds were immediately deposited in the scammer's account as it turned out the 'Confirm' button contained in the email was clickbait for intercepting the e-transfer. The agent should have been trained to educate me about identifying phishing attempts instead of blindly nudging me forward. When i called them back i got that same agent, who feebly apologized for the inconvenience; he sounded like an idiot. I asked to speak to a supervisor who wouldn't help get my money back, but then i threatened to bank elsewhere and suddenly she said she would submit my case to their fraud investigation unit and that she would call me back in 24 hours. She never called back so i ended up having to call back myself and she was unavailable to take the phone. Unknown whether she had actually submitted the file or not. Decided to take my business elsewhere.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Processing times, fees, card ability to purchase literally anything online
General comments: Horrible bank. Slowest processing times I’ve ever seen. I’ve been waiting for my direct deposit from my employer for three hours. Every other bank I’ve had processes it right at midnight. Not this one. I’ll be closing my account, I already opened a new one elsewhere. Terrible bank. Stick to insurance.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Terrible resolution to bank errors! Still waiting 105 days later! They did a stop payment and never returned my money!
General comments: Go with a different credit union. I applied for a mortgage but I am going to another credit union. A stop payment usually takes 12 days maximum 12 weeks! You should not be a bank if you steal from your customers!

What do you like about this bank / credit union?: The flexibility of having access to my home equity. There were a few tough years when this was a blessing. You can get this feature at real banks too. But we were young and didn’t know that.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Everything.
General comments: Worst bank ever. They Stole $2400 from my account, no reason or explanation. No help. 7 CSRs and 2 managers later, still no help. They aren’t looking for my money. They don’t care. They will not admit it is a banking error. The most frustrating people I’ve ever dealt with. And the robot that answers the phone is enough to drive anyone crazy. I do some yoga and deep breathing, get my calm on, call the bank to discuss the “investigation “ and before I get to speak to a representative, that robot has me twitching like a monkey full of meth. It really is difficult to keep your composure while talking to these people on their VoIP phones in their dark basement apartments in Haiti.

General comments: Worst bank ever. Used a secured line of credit product. They took and registered properties that were not part of the agreement without our knowledge. Second property that was registered remained as security six years after our relationship ended. Now I have a extra lawyer bill thanks to Manulife not doing their job. Do not use them if you have a choice.

Why do you bank with them?: I initial moved to a manulife one account to take advantage of being able to pay down my mortgage more quickly.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: As above, only liked the ability to pay off the mortgage more quickly.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Just about everything.
General comments: My experiences over the last four years have been horrific. As soon as I was in a position to have my mortgage paid off I was forced to be in a position with a standard mortgage again which committed me to having long term payments again, but it's all the other promises of the company which I couldn't take anymore. If you pulled money from an ATM at a credit union you weren't supposed to be charged a fee, except I have for almost ten years now. Without branches you have to deal with their telephone banking system which has been terribly slow and is often covered by people with seemingly little experience. I recently requested a certified cheque be sent to deal wit hthe deposit for the purchase of a new home and they simply forgot to send it. Basic functionality of a normal bank for things like a bank draft to purchase a house and impossible with Manulife and the lesson I've learned is that for all the benefits of being able to payoff a mortgage more quickly, unless you're good with money it'll never really have good value to you and not being able to deal with a branch is more pain than it's worth.

Why do you bank with them?: High interest rates and no fees
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Absolutely nothing
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Manulife better start having knowledgeable service representatives on the phone if they want to be an online bank. Shoddy job and misleading advice given to me.
General comments: Buyer Beware. Did you know that if you deposited say $500 in cash bills (at RBC using their deposit slip which they provide for deposits) the funds would be on hold at Manulife for 2-7 business days?? A Bank to Bank transfer (cash from a bank account into Manulife account) is placed on hold for 2-7 days to be "verified" by Manulife even though my account at the other bank shows the funds have been remitted to Manulife? You may get no fees and interest on your account but is this worth it? Better check out other online banks before you open an account. The Manulife Service Representative (Supervisor, that is) told me the Canadian Banking regulations dictate that even cash deposits have to be placed on hold! Wonder if she has ever deposited cash into a bank account in her life!

How long have you banked with them?: I received my Bank Card on Dec 24/19 and I closed the account on Jan 21.20.
Why do you bank with them?: I left after three weeks due to their STRANGE DEPOSIT HOLD POLICY, which I would think is illegal. They HOLD YOUR CASH DEPOSITS (yes, in 2020 all cash deposited into your Manulife Bank account is held (unavailiable to you) for 15 days! Cheques are held 5-10 BUSINESS DAYS, and they seem very proud of this weird policy.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Nothing. Manulife Bank is a dinosoar in its procedures, including the REQUIRED personal information you must give everytime to call. Why would I want to be required to verbally tell them my bday, my job title, my company name, and the current balance in my account???? I am not doing each time i call the bank for Customer question, etc! Imagine being at the mall, or wherever, and having to call them and being required to say that information??? Everyone can hear you. NOT GOOD.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: EVERYTHING! - Dump the odd 'no access to cash for 15 days' policy - Declare to all future clients the EXACT policy and procedures...
General comments: DO NOT USE MANULIFE BANK if you need to access your money. Your payments might bounce, but Manulife Bank will continue to 'hold' even you cash deposits for 2-3 WEEKS!!! Stay away!

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Hire customer service people instead of just anyone of the street.
General comments: I originally opened this account because I wanted to become involved with the Manulife one. After speaking with a customer service agent he told me I was not able to be involved. That I did not have 35% equity in my home. I told him I had 30% equity in my home. According to the website it looked like that didn't matter and part of it could go into the sub account. When I told him what he was telling me that don't make sense from the website it look like I could be involved. he told me know that I cannot be and that was all there was to. I was shocked and told him I wanted to speak to somebody else that knew what they were doing. He told me I was not allowed to. I hung up and called back and got someone else I told her I was talking to this man explain the situation to her and she said I would have to talk to him I told you I was not comfortable talking to him and wanted to speak with someone that may know what they're doing. She said exactly that's too bad. He's the only one you can speak to. This sounded absolutely ridiculous I called back the next day after controlling my temper and cancelled my accounts. After sometime I decided I still want to be involved in the Manulife one program. And decided this was a bad experience let's start over. I opened another account. Just a checking and savings account. About a week later I got a call from someone telling me that they needed to confirm some information for my Visa card I told him I did not apply for Visa card. He told me it was included in my account so I said okay fine and confirm some information about six days later I received the card. I called to register the card and gave information to do still. And everything seems fine. I used the card it worked for me the next time I tried to use it it said declined and they had put a block on my account after calling to find out what was going on here. so when I called a guy told me there's no one I can speak to about it that'll have to call back another day. This is insane. The next day I forgot to call someone called me and I got a message to call them back. I did so and now they want me to prove who I am by sending all kinds of documents the service agent on the phone told me to send it to him courier. I told him why would I do that. I already have the account and sent me the card why are you asking me to prove my income and who I am now. This would have not been a problem if they just asked me this from the start not to mention I didn't even apply for this card. this place is nothing but a stressful pain in the ass I've been on the phone for times in 3 days with this company for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Learn to respect your customers and leave them the hell alone do your own homework I'm not going to do it for you. Never had an experience like this with any other Bank of any kind I will cancel these accounts again and I've done with your Manulife one program. What a shame because it sounded like a good idea. I can't be involved with a company this size that runs it like a 12 year old would. I also like to add my grandmother works for the president of Manulife many years ago and her son. She always spoke very highly of them and they also took care of my mother when she needed help finding a job. I thought this would be something that I could take pride in being apart of. I guess it's just a mess now. I should probably look at finding a new place for my life insurance as well it's a shame I can't cancel my benefits at work I would if I could

General comments: Manulife has good progressive banking products but the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever incurred from phone reps right through to management. Absolute incompetence. It cost me money but I moved all my accounts, credit card and investments to another institution. It was worth it not to incur the frustration of dealing with this bank. It’s difficult to explain how a bank that offers such progresssive banking products has such indifferent incompetent customer service. When they screw you over and have to acknowledge it they have a program called the “make it right” program. It’s laughable because they only continue to do it wrong. They must have a poor employee culture and / or morale.

General comments: I opened an Advantage Account with these guys in late September as I had a couple of insurance products from over 10 years ago where I was generally satisfied with the experience, however the banking aspect of this outfit is a complete joke. Let me just say that my nightmare started on Nov. 8 when I made a cash deposit for $1200 at an RBC branch using their NDDS deposit slips that are supposed to be the fastest and most efficient way of putting money in an account but where they see fit to hold cash for up to 8 days!!! I mean what the hell is that? You might as well deposit through an ABM if that's the case and to make matters worse I requested that hold be lifted as there was ample proof I made a cash deposit but where things went from bad to worse. Not only did they not remove the hold they piled on more holds for two pension deposits made at the end of October because they weren't in my name even though I had power of attorney over those affairs. Something they didn't care to ask or confirm nor would it have mattered and so they freeze the entire account, put over $3000 worth of holds on the account and the proceed to return the pension money to the government creating all sorts of additional headaches. A total clusterfvck operation spending an entire two days talking to over a dozen CSR's to finally speak to some arrogant ass in the back office who could care less about the hardship placed and all of it unnecessary! My advice is to stay the hell away from this company when it comes to their banking products because while virtual banks are naturally more difficult to deal with these guys take it from the sublime to the ridiculous in no time flat!

What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Nothing really and I am extremely frustrated with them. They are holding my money for more than a week now with an excuse that some cheques have been returned unclear. They keep saying they are reviewing my account but refuse to give me access to my own money. I am now stuck as I can't even pay for my basics expenses. They are scammers. I will get this resolved hopefully and will never bank with them again.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: They shouldn't hold anybody money without a court order. This is illegal.
General comments: I will never bank with them again. They are still holding my money, even though I don't owe them anything . This is brutal, this is illegal. I want my money back. I need it.

General comments: I opened an Advantage account online on my iPad. A few days later I got some emails to provide me with access code and what was needed to continue the opening process. I uploaded my credit card statement but couldn’t find a link for deposit so I called. A customer service told me on the phone to upload my check using “upload documents” on the website and I did. Some days later I received an email reminding me to upload document and deposit a check. I called again and another rep checked for me and said that I had done everything and she would send a request to review. I waited some time but didn’t get anything back from them. I called again and expressed my frustration and the rep talked to her boss a few times back and forth and finally told me that the uploaded check couldn’t be processed and I had to get an App in order to deposit a check online. I got the App and deposited my check. My check was cleared my bank soon and a few days later the fund was available but the account was not linked to my bank account as I was told. While I was waiting for the card in mail, I received an email saying that my application has been canceled because I chose not to complete the process. I was completely disappointed and decided to give up. I made the last call, the rep told me that I needed upload a document and deposit a check! I told her that I was happy that my application had been canceled because I was not comfortable putting my money in such a bank. She said the funds in my account would be reversed back to my bank. Though time wasted but thank God I saved myself from future nightmares!

General comments: I open an account and when received the first email asking me to login online, I didn't have the access card number. Not that I recall that it is given to me during the application. I just got a reference number for an application. When I call in, I explained my situation. The customer representative explained to me she cannot help me anymore. The reason is that I stated my problem and explain the situation. That gives too much "voluntary information" over the phone. This makes Manulife not having enough information to ask me to confirm my identify. But my application has all the name, date of birth, phone numbers, address, reference number, employment and so on that can be asked. I really don't know how Manulife set up the questions so that once I called, the customer representative has already running out questions to verify my identity. Oh! I forgot to mention that I called in at around 7:53pm and talked on the phone till 8:00 pm when the contact centre has to close !!!

Why do you bank with them?: Bought a house was talked into Manulife One
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: nothing
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: stop screwing with your customers
General comments: we bought a house went into it with more than 75% down. The Manulife one was a total rip off so switched to traditional morgage. After a couple years and having a boat load of equity we went to our other bank to get a personal line of credit using some of the equity. They were more than happy to help and were willing to take second position leaving Manulife in first. Not good enough for Manulife they completely rejected the offer forcing us to move entire mortgage to our other bank. Now the real nightmare begins. We begin by getting title search done and there was an unknown charge on our title dating back 2 years before we even bought the house. When we purchased we had title search done then and it was totally clear. Took over 2 months to get them to correct that issue costing us time and money waiting and leaving us in limbo. Finally finally get the title clear, after many phone calls and pleading threatening I even put stop payment on my account to prevent them taking more money. Get the clear title, set up new mortgage bring in lawyers and all the fun stuff request from Manulife payout request dated for feb 16 so we can finally get funded and pay them off totally. Feb 20, no statement has arrived and phoned Manulife only to be told they had a date of the 26 but it was crossed out and a date of the 21 was put in its place! clearly and they have since admitted someone misread the 1 for 2 after trying to blame our bank first of course. In writing this I received a call back from an upper manager that listened and promised me tomorrow morning it will all be done she will see it thru. This after dealing with 3 managers and 12 customer service reps in total...we shall see!

Why do you bank with them?: I soon won't
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: I am able to switch mortgage companies. ie. not Manulife
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Perhaps they can hire an accountant who can perform a simple weighted average calculation. It is unfathomable that it should take three weeks (and counting) to receive a blended rate quote.
General comments: As a bank, Manulife is a great insurance provider. Do yourself a favour and use a real bank for banking needs. Manulife is a joke.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Professionalism
General comments: I dealt with Jessica Armitage and she is the most incompetent person I have ever met. Disorganized and unprofessional, she failed to send an email regarding Manulife 1 because she "forgot". If this is how this woman does business, she doesn't create a good impression of Manulife.

General comments: Worst bank ever. Terrible customer service. They made an error in my account, took out a lot of money and decided to not give it back to me with an appology. I dealt with the issue on a Saturday and it took them over 72 hours to sort it out. I also had to call back to get an answer- they did not return my call as they promised they would. This is the worst banking experience I have evern had. Keep your money at home in a mattress, where it won't be taken by the bank, or go to another bank.
